Hi all, have just got a VPN for my PC and wondered how I go about setting it up for my QUAD?

I presume the Openvpn plugin is only for people using the openvpn vpn?

If it helps, I use Slickvpn

many thanks

ps, will reflash to latest version in next few days

EDIT: Have just had a look at its web page and turns out I don't know what I'm talking about, I thought openvpn referred to one vpn company doh.

Will have a good read and see if I can work out how to set openvpn up.

While we do have an OpenVPN plugin available in the feeds, it's best to terminate any VPN on your router.
I'd be looking at that first.

Brilliant, I was wondering about this only a couple of days ago

As the OP posts:

It's best to terminate the VPN at router rather than box, so all boxes on the local network can use that VPN.
Also, E2 boxes aren't the best security wise, better to let the router/modem handle VPNs.

So what disadvantages is there to using the vpn plugin rather than setting up on the router it's self, I am currently unable to set my vpn up on my router (BT home hub 5) BT have done a good job to make this neer impossible on there new home hub 5's :(

My only option was to set up open vpn on my boxes / laptops / phones etc etc, rather than have to fawk out a lot of money for a new router that supports fftc vdsl 2.

Is there any security issues doing it this way?? As I always had my vpn set up to router until now that is.

No security issues that I know of, would still prefer router to take care of VPNs rather than any box on the local network though.

@judge - As in our other discussion on port forwarding issues, most ISP supplied modem/routers make it next to impossible to set up a VPN. Particularly with FTTC it's difficult to buy a compatible modem router off the shelf to replace the ISP supplied one. The best option is to bridge the ISP supplied device and put your own router behind it. I have Vodafone e-Fibre (fibre to the cabinet) and while the supplied box is pretty stable it is fairly well locked down.

Yes, most ISPs make it as difficult as possible.
A computer degree goes over their heads...

A quick look around my Sky BB router and there's no way to set one up there.

Not sure I want to do it that way anyway, sometimes I want my PC of my VPN while at the same time, wanting Netflix on another device on it.
