[Zgemma H7] Kodi mode or PIP mode which is "more stable"

Hi Guys,

Just a quick "educational" question which has been in the back of my mind and needs clarifying in "stupid person" language.... as I am stupid


with my Zgemma H7S you can boot to either mode 1 or mode 12 (PIP or Kodi mode) - Apart from Kodi working better (I assume) in Kodi boot mode and PIP not working well (if at all) in PIP mode - is either of them more stable when it comes to normal functionality (e.g. Timeshift, recording from Sat or T/T2 tuners)? what exactly is the difference. I only use the box with Sat and T/T2 tuners and don't do any streaming at all.

For context - I don't use or plan to use KODI at all
I have a mini screen in my chosen skin in the EPG
I use EPGRefresh with Fake record (as opposed to PIP)

No issues as such - I was just wondering which mode would be better (and why).

As a Zgemma H7S user myself, I'd say kodi mode (mode 1) is arguably more stable: in PiP mode corrupt video data (e.g. from reception of weak signals) seems more likely to confuse the video decoding hardware in a way that it doesn't automatically recover from, requiring a reboot to fix it and continue viewing.

Interesting!! Thanks for that. My signal is a litle weak actually on a few transponders (down to 55% on one due to some trees and a low disk position and probably a bad alignment when I changed the LNB) with an occasional breakup in bad weather so that may directly help me until I can justify the expense of an engineer to reposition/realign.
