New to this, is OCTAGON SF8008 with OpenVix the one to get for Freesat with similar colour scheme to SkyHD ?

I just don't know what to go for. I use Freesat. Can these devices also do IPTV if needed come 2029 when the satellites stop ?

I would love a GUI design exactly like SkyHD especially. Is OpenVix the best to get for this ?

EDIT : Just seen the small print that says it is out of stock, oh well.

You are correct in that you don't know, 1, saying sats stop in 2029 is wrong, 2.saying the sf8008 for freesat is out of stock is wrong, 3. saying you use freesat and then don't say what box you are using is wrong,

An enigma2 box is highly configurable and yes with openvix you can have a sky hd look and a sky q look BUT you have to do the work yourself.

So post again and don't post stuff that is wrong.

just to help you look at octagon and ab com pulse and you will see they can be bought setup for freesat and you could ask if the sky look could be added. the ab com pulse is the better buy.

Thanks for the corrections, the out of stock one I saw wasn't the freesat configured one it seems. Given the SF8008 and the AB Pulse are almost the same price, do you know the reason the Pulse is better ? Is it hardware related ? Thanks.

Yes its hardware, the ab com takes an internal SSD in fact its very neat, it goes on a pull out tray at the rear and fitting an ssd will make it fly but an ordinary 2.5 HDD will work nearly as good but not as fast. Recently due to the onset of A1 ram and SSD prices have gone through the roof but the ssd that goes in the octagon is at a different level when it comes to price, it can cost more than the receiver and that to me is a deal breaker. You could use a USB hdd but not my liking, too slow.

The speed of the storage device is negligible for satellite receivers on the performance. The only difference would be if you are storing picons on there. There isn't a constant read/write operation to/from the device. And in any case, it is usually continuous files rather than bits of data scattered everywhere.

However, flash storage devices are silent and don't generate heat.

The Sky look can be achieved by installing the Sky skin. This is by a few clicks on your remote. You can setup your receiver to have a Freesat channel list, this will be done by configuring AutoBouquetsMaker (ABM). If Astra 28.2 ceases broadcasting in 2029, you are most likely not be able to install the Freely app on an Enigma2 receiver. However, that is the future, who knows what may happen.
