[TM-TWIN-OE] No Video Output After Last Update

After performing an update today, the box rebooted through the progress bar/splash screen and then everything went black (the sound was ok via the optical output) and the following message was displayed on the front panel:

If you see t

I assume the rest was meant to be scrolled into view, but that didn't happen.

I killed the power, rebooted it and it did the same again.

I decided to press OK and suddenly the video appeared (via scart) and then I checked the A/V settings and they were as previously set. I then switched to HDMI and that was fine also.

Any reason this new update should disable both scart & HDMI out until OK is pressed (as a guess)?

Try a fresh flash of build 802 we recently updated the drivers and kernel for the TM receivers.

I've just had to reboot it as it was actively creating a massive 500mb log file (& growing) while in standby with the time stuck at 9:26pm and it still requires the ok button to be pressed so something is fooked up lol

Downloaded 802 from here, uploaded via USB, box booted straight into the video wizard and then I performed a settings backup restore.

The box rebooted and all was fine UNTIL I performed an online update to 805 and now I get exactly the same problem when I boot the box from cold.

The box boots with both a scart and HDMI output until it gets to 100%. As soon as it does, the video output is disabled on all outputs and the "If you see t" message is shown on the VFD display.

Something is wrong here guys..

The only plugin running on the box is mgcamd135a.

What are your display settings? It sounds as if receiver is changing the resolution. Can you control it through web interface.

I am on 805 and did not USB flash during migration to newer USB tuner friendly kernel. Online updates all the way. Receiver is connected to scart and hdmi of one TV. Do you fancy trying without a settings restore?

If no joy and you have submitted your logs via receiver, please post your reference number on forum.

HDMI 1080i 50Hz / Same for component and PAL 50 CVBS on scart (as the RGB is still fcuked as they use 'Sync on Green' which results in a green picture on my TV)

Control what through the webif?

The webif is fine. It changes channels and pulls up all the settings (except the video settings which aren't even an option).

I can hear the sound from the optical output, but all my TV does is show nothing (and then a screensaver) on either scart or HDMI.

The settings restore happened after flashing it to 802 and following the restore, the box reboots and works perfectly.
That suggests it's nothing to do with the restore as It only seems to happen when applying the latest update (to 805)

I've checked the logs and their is no entry for the incomplete VFD notice "If you see t" sadly.

I did leave it on an encrytped channel (to see the mgcamd info appended to the end of the log) and the final entry was me pressing the ok button to re-enable the video (on both scart and HDMI)

I will flash it again to 802 and upgrade without the restore option though..

PS. Pressing exit also restores the video. So it's obviously some message box linked to the video output..

Not that it helps you, but I have experienced no issues with my Twin; neither after updating nor when flashing (build 805).

We're getting somewhere now

I did another 802 flash, ignored the restore and then did an upgrade to 805. All fine thus far.

I then selectively edited the settings file to restore most of my EPG/Tuner/Config etc (but ignore any video settings) and all is fine.

I then restored my channel list and all is fine.

I then set the Component to 1080i, OK'd it and all is fine.

I then moved to the scart setting, changed it to CVBS and then changed the "Auto Scart Switching" setting to "enable" and the TV went into AV1 mode (which is correct) and the following message was displayed:

If you see this, something is wrong with your scart connection. Press OK to return

[so we now know what that message on the VFD was trying to say]

This of course is WRONG as the TV should be on AV1, so christ knows what Technomate are thinking here..lol

If you press OK and return to the settings screen, the setting is still set as "enable". If you disable it and then re-enable it, you lose the picture altogether and have to guess that you need to press OK to return the picture.
[this is now the norm as this setting just disables ALL video output from the box]

All in all, another classic TM fcuk up.

It does suggest that they've followed up on my emails regarding the WSS and Scart Control features, perhaps they've finally fixed the 6 and 12 volt settings on pin8 for correct WSS function

Anyways, for the time being, (if used) I would DISABLE the Auto Scart Switching setting as it causes total video output failure from the unit on boot up

UPDATE:
I've just noticed, TM have changed the function of this setting and now use it to monitor the VCR scart so it no longer allows you to disable the SCART pin8 voltage on pure HDMI settups...
The message still doesn't make any sense as I have nothing connected to the VCR Scart so surely I should be seeing the message all the time it's enabled. So this is just a setting that easily confuses and renders the box outputs to null, which is bad on all counts..

Oh and WSS still doesn't work as pin8 is still 6 volts when on 4:3 channels...(it should be 12 volts)

Glad to hear. Now if you had gone to webif or even telnet, you could have gotten a screen grab of what was on screen even though you couldn't see it.

I think I need to email Richard and let him know this latest update is bad as the VCR scart does NOT need a setting as the following SHOULD happen on these bloody boxes..

[No Settings Option Required]
VCR SCART : Pin 8 HI (either 6 or 12 volts) should trigger the video throughput out to the TV SCART (matching the voltage on its Pin 8 to maintain WSS to the TV)

[Auto Scart Switching Enabled]
TV SCART : Pin 8 HI (6 volts on 16:9 broadcasts OR 12 volts on 4:3 broadcasts) / Pin 8 LO (0V in standby).

[Auto Scart Switching Disabled]
Pin 8 LO (0 volts at all times) on the TV SCART during TWIN operation EXCEPT when a source is present on the VCR SCART. Then Pin 8 on the TV SCART should match the voltage on the VCR SCART Pin 8 (again to switch the TV and maintain WSS).

Is this really that hard to comprehend ffs lol.

I couldn't find the direct link to the video settings in the Extra menu, but remember, I didn't actually know what was happening before I saw that error message when changing the scart setting so I didn't know I needed to initially lol

Apart fro the settings-tabs you also have the full remote. Apart from being a bit slow that makes you think you're in front of your telly, using your RC.

This is true, but remember I didn't know it was a settings problem until I had gone through some diagnostic steps using the genuine remote. (and the remote was never disabled, so I didn't need the virtual remote)

If someone had said, oh you need to disable the auto scart switch, I would've hit OK, opened up the settings and done it, but I didn't know that setting would disable all video output (and it seems nobody else did lol)

Anyways, this post should help anyone else that upgrades and finds this setting enabled
