If I leave the box in DS, the RTC continues to run, which is what I'd expect.
Last night I powered off the box completely at 2245. Today I powered on at 1700. The LCD clock showed 1700 at the end of the boot process - previously it would show the power off time and then update to the current time. When I looked at the debug log, it showed the box starting at 1700, and well before the RTC update check. Again in the past, the log showed the power down time until the RTC update, then an abrupt jump to current tme and the number of seconds for the change.
Strange.
Checking again tonight and even pulled the plug.

As @twol has posted - there is no RTC in the GB Quad 4K. What you are seeing in the log is the effect of the clock being updated silently over the internet at boot time, with the system time being updated before the enigma log starts and is date/timestamped. The Vu receivers have RTC (but not battery backed so can't survive a full power disconnect) and there may be other makes with RTC. The GB Quad has a countdown timer which basically ticks once per second until zero when it boots the machine for a recording or a PowerTimer boot from deep standby. If you pull the plug, the timer (and even the Vu RTC) loses its setting and the box boots initially to the last fake-hwclock stored time and is corrected as soon as it has a network connection or is tuned to a transponder.
