Hi all,
Want to try storing my picons on flash for a while, I copied them to /picon but no joy.
What's the correct path to store them on flash?
Thanks, Judge.

Got it,
Code:
/usr/share/enigma2/picon
Is the correct path to store picons in flash.

Although more paths are possible, the normal location is '/picon'.
When installing picons from the feeds, this is the location used.

I used to install a picon folder just in the root, then sent picons over to the folder and rebooted my box.
Buit using internal flash did not appeal to me, so now as like lots of others i use a small 64mb usb pendrive for them, change the settings in the epg to media/usb and work no problems

Buit using internal flash did not appeal to me,
Can you explain why? After all, the whole system is running from there.

I know there are stories about flash wearing out when much used. But firstly all boxes use high quality flash nowadays, and secondly writing is what does the wearing out, not reading. And writing to flash is not a daily business, is it?
Even so: all my boxes have been flashed hundreds of times, and no sign of any weary flash.......

That's odd, i tried first in /picon & they didn't show up.
Anyhow, working fine for now in /usr/share/enigma2/picon

I feel running them from hard drive or usb then memory storge ways would be better than the actual internal flash in my opinon and less chance maybe of slowing down the box or cause any crash issue.
I see it like a pc, if no ram or small amount of ram and you what to more programs running the pc is limited, the pc needs to find some ram from other places and look elsewhere, but if not other alternatives i.e crash.
The way i have treated my boxes and anything i own and always will, better to prevent than find a cure ;)

RAM is not flash: having picons in flash will not influence your RAM in any way........

Flash is faster then any other location, and therefore will never slow down anything at all. Moreover: using the HDD for picons will actually slow zapping very much (and even more if the disk is asleep at the time of zapping).

I've transfered my picons to flash from USB today and can confirm that this has improved my zapping.

Thanks to Rob van der Does
