Strange Sat Lock Problem

Hi guys,
Got a real strange one here.. I have a Vu+ Duo running the Vix Image. Using a sly satellite dish to connect to the box it's not picking up certain channels such as BBC1,2, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 as well as many other FTA's but it does show the other channels. The sat scan picks up pretty much all the channels. ABM fails. I plugged the same box into a motorised dish and it picked up all the missing channels and ran the ABM which was successful. Plugged back into the original sly dish on the channels that wasn't working getting Tuner failed. Plugged a sly box into the same sly dish using the same coax and these channels work. I can't work it out, can't be the vu+ with a bad tuner as it works on a motorized dish. It's not the coax or the sat as it picks up the channels using a sly box. What do you reckon it could be?

Hi mate

Depending on how good the alinement is with your sky dish as oppose to your motorised dish it could be slightly off beam you can do a simple signal test see how strong the signal is on the missing channels, another work around in the old days was to +/- the feq by 1-2 to see if this fools the receiver into picking up the channel.
I dont think there is any problem with your satellite xml file as you say using the motor dish brings in the channel but its always good house cleaning to keep satellite and settings up to date as channels do come and go as well as transponders

Thanks for the reply. I have added the latest satellites XML file which I downloaded from http://satellites-xml.org. I just tried a old cheap satellite standard box plugged in the coax, did a manual scan for BBC1 London and it picked it up straight away! That makes me believe the the dish is aligned perfect as it also shows bbc with an original sly box. I'm assuming its something to do with the vix image.. I love this image and really want to use this. Could there be something else I can fix on the box in terms of settings?

It is not unusual for satellite receivers to give different results from the same dish and feed. I suspect your either your dish, LNB or cabling from LNB to box.

To help isolate the problem, say where you are located (don't give exact position, just the approx. location) and what signal strength you get on a channel you can get.

To give you an idea of what is possible I get 84% on Film4 HD from a minidish located in SE UK. I get over 93% on some other 28°e channels.

Thanks so much Timofee! I have a MK1 dish, I changed the LNB with a new quad Zinwell LNB which took about 1 minute to do and now working perfect! Locking on to all the channels with no problem! Such a cracking box this is, well impressed even with the streaming videos from my server to the vu+ duo.
