[VU+ Duo] Stuck At Boot

Hi guys, for the past 24hrs ive been trying to move from a year old plus vix image (Sorry dont recall what exact version it was on, did have the paint splash style boot screen)

I tried to go straight for the 080 Apollo version.

Not being sure on the bootloader status, i uploaded the cfe type files onto a memory stick in the vuplus/duo folder as instructed - had a blink and you missed it type message and got the prompt to reboot.

Formatted the stick, popped apollo on there in the same style, and again the front panel looked like it was going through the motions - programming, erasing flash, reboot etc etc.

When it booted I got the new splash screen and after a few seconds the vix spinner came up, as per usual it was large to begin with and after a few seconds went smaller (Guessing resolution switching?) All looked well - however I was stuck with the small vix spinner and couldnt get any further (Was expecting the setup wizard)

Tried a couple of other memory sticks and followed the same process. Ive tried redoing the bootloader followed by the image, and also just the image. Ive tried all the usb sockets and still had the same issue.

In my frustration ive followed the same process with some other images (Blackhole, the 2.1 version from the main Vu website, a couple of full backups people have done from VIX images and Blackhole ones) but all have the same issue, they go through the motions but eventually hang with whatever spinner icon and dont progress.

The wording on the front panel stays with "Vu+ Duo" on the screen.

Ive read a ton in the past 24hrs and tried all I can think of to try and resolve. On all images im able to telnet, and have been able to communicate.

I had the existing internal hard drive connected whilst trying most of the above, but have recently removed it and left the minimum required connections (Ethernet, Component & Power) and tried a few of the images again in the same way with the same results

Im at a loss of what to do. Im not a noob and have done this endless times in the past without issue, so perplexed??

Only thing ive tried to seek out and havent been able to as I cant find an archive section in the vix downloads area, is an older Zeus, or older still image to see if it relates to the driver issue ive seen mentioned.

Is there a telnet command I can fire to see whats happening while its booting to diagnose where its hanging, or retrieve anything logs wise to assist.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Its early days but id say im in the same boat, previously have allowed 5-10mins before packing in and trying something else. Im on the splash screen with the Winter style background and the vix spinner has gone from the large to the small version but is seemingly sat there not progressing any further

Any further ideas or suggestions

You seem to have covered all the possibilities in what you have tried. Some people say keep trying more USB sticks - 8gb Kingston Data traveller seems a popular choice.

Do fresh FAT32 format before you copy in the vuplus\duo\ folder with the image files. I'm sure you've done that, but just to make certain.

If that still fails I can only think of replacing the capacitor - see the red light thread for details. Normally you would not do this unless you hit the red light problem. If you can use a soldering iron the capacitor only costs about 50p and it is quick and easy to do.

Thanks for the advice, ive being formatting as fat32 on each occasion ive loaded the usb with anything - its really galling that it seems to be working to a degree however its not getting over that final hurdle

Anyways ive had a good run with it so not complaining in the slightest, just don't want to resign it to the scrap heap if I can help it in any way.

Thanks for the suggestion fella but I've tried that, that what I was referring to by the 2.1 image, sorry reading it back my post doesn't make it clear.

Just pondering as I can access it via telnet, is there a way of loading a very basic vix image, no frills and instigate a package update command whilst it's stuck in the boot loop?

Seen some opkg update commands listed here and elsewhere followed by an init 4 or 6 to reboot but didn't want to try in case I did any further harm

If You Can FTP Into The Box, You Can Get The Log File(s) From /home/root/logs...

I couldnt find any logs in that location, just a blank root folder.

I did probe around and found the following attached folder

In the messages file in that folder it seems to suggest all is well with the exception of a cpu issue towards the bottom of the log. Not sure if thats a red-herring or even a relevant log file but thought it was worth a punt!

If you can telnet in, type the following:

Ps -ef

List the output on this thread. The above will tell you what processes are running. I'll compare them to the processes running on mine to see if there is anything missing.
