There is no reason why you can't use DiSEqC for this box.

OK, I should have said "There should be no reason why you can't use DiSEqC for this box".
If there is, it can only be a setting error or a hardware fault.

My Twin runs DiSEqC (switches & motor) just fine.

If you know you hardware is working with another receiver, why are you interfering with it? You are then adding another variable into the equation.

I am going to be blunt, don't be offended. This is case of user error/unfamiliarity.

Squinting at your picture, you have set use USALS for this satellite to yes, the co-ordinates are 5.xx East. That puts you on the continent. Once again, don't be offended. For fault finding, I think it is best to treat things in isolation and start at simplest level and systematically rule things out while limiting variables as far as possible. As your dish moves but does not lock on to a signal, I am pretty sure it is a configuration issue.

1. Go to dishpointer.com and get your exact co-ordinates.Use your postcode, move pointer to your address. What are they?
2. Post a screenshot of your tuner configuration while using USALS. One way to take a screenshot, paste the following in your web browser (change the x to make your IP address correct)

3. If you say your TM800Hd works fine, please attach the file called "settings" from it here. Do the same for the one from your Twin. The file is located in /etc/enigma2/

Hi Abu, honestly no offense taken.. I know I am a total amateur at all this, although I have been using these boxes for years I only learn the bits I need to learn so when I have to change anything I am lost again.. My TM 800 packed in so while I know everything was working when it was running I figured all I need to do is use the same settings that I used for it. That's why I have been trying to use Disquec 1.2.. because I knew how to set up the 800 to find 13,19.2 and 28.2 east..
Anyhoo.. the settings on the screenshot were after when I was trying to use Disquec the lat long for my location are Latitude: 56.2956°
Longitude: -5.4462°.. should it be west instead of east.. I tried west but nothing.. Just tried the screenshot.. thats very very clever lol

Positive = North (Latitude) and East (Longitude).
Negative = South (Latitude) and West (Longitude).

Compare line 2 of our screenshots. Also read the text in yours. For now, change to what I posted.

Hi all.. apologies for the abrupt stop in posting, a foot of snow and no phone lines tend to do that lol... I will resume setting the twin up as soon as the snow clears a bit, I have also a new problem, the remote control has started to jump around 3 button presses when only pressed once, I have e mailed Technomate for a resolution, at the moment the new tm is at the point of getting kicked round the garden lol.. its impossible to do anything while the remote is doing what it is..I press menu and it jumps 3 moves ahead and so on.. so far tm say its the batterys in my other remotes that are at fault.. dont know how but will try what they say to do but not holding much hope.. If anyone else has any ideas it would be most appreciated.. Thanks again guys

When I switch to single sat or Usals, the dish moves but 28.2 east is only at 35% signal, when I allign the dish with positioner it hits 93%, And incidentaly TM were correct, it was a remote control in a drawer that was interfering with the twins remote.. live and learn.. 50 years and never heard of this before...

Why is line 18 set to yes? I thought you didn't want that option?
Have you configured all the other satellites too?

Reason dish doesn't move is because no positions are saved on the motor, so it doesn't know where to move to.

If USALS is moving the dish but doesn't point it correctly do a "GoToZero" in positioner setup. If this doesn't cure it your dish is set up wrong. In this case you may be able to fudge it by using false co-ordinates. But the real fix is set up the dish correctly in the first place.

Line 18 is set to yes as was trying every setting I could find to see if that would help, makes no difference if its set to yes or no dish still wont move under disqec, surely I can set the box to disquec and move the dish then save the settings for each satellite, when I move the dish manually it gives 93% for 28.2, 89% for 13 eats and 91% for 19 east so don't know how the dish could be out of alignment, its the same story whatever the settings are when changed to disqec 1.2 without moving the dish and knowing its pointing at 28.2 with 93% signal when I go to position er setup there is no signal and the dish doesn't move when told to sorry but this is all I have ever used and has worked for years on 2 or 3 different boxes, when using Usals it willmove to a position however the signal that it finds on usals only has a signalof 40% at best.. very confused..
Should have said that when I say I am moving the dish manually I mean that I am going to the motor and pressing the "move" button on the motor to move the dish

With regards to moving forward, there are three options:-

1. Align dish correctly and use USALS
2. Use USALS and fudge co-ordinate values
3. Use Diseqc 1.2 without invoking USALS

Decide which you want to do. In terms of preferance, option 1 (when its warm and dry) is best.

I feel that the dish is correct as stated before works with other recievers no problem, as stated have tried every setting I can change to get "disquec" to work. surely if I want to use Disquec then it should work, what I cant understand is why it wont ? it will only move when set to Usals.. Why if I use disquec on another reciever does it work ok but when using this tm twin it doesn't ??

Another thing I am finding is that after changing a few settings on the twin it will lock up and needs to be restarted and 9 out of ten I have to flash the drive, seems no matter which vix image I try its unstable which makes me want to not give up trying anything as its a pain in the xx~ to reflash every time.. I cant tell you how frustrating it is to sit watching the vix symbol sitting spinning waiting for something to happen and after 15 min.... off ..on.. flash the drive... start everything over again

USALS calculates where motor should be moved to. If you are getting poor signal values, your dish is out of alignment/you have used incorrect values. If out of alignemnet, you have to move whole assembly left/right by a little bit.

The screenshots you have uploaded so far depict you mixing USALS and Diseqc motor control settings. Use just one of them, don't mix and match. Section 1.5 of Vix manual shows the steps you should use for Non-USALS, i.e Diseqc motor controls. Please re-read it and follow it. This should get you up and running soon.

Abu as I said the screenshot showing the setting with usals on was a mistake, I have tried every setting there is to get the dish to move in disquec 1.2, supposing the dish was lying on the ground I should still be able to move the motor when I set everything to disquec... when i press search east etc nothing happens even though the green light is on at the motor.. still it wont move it.. I cant see why it wouldn't other than a harware fault with the receiver.. when i hook up an old box it moves it and gets a good signal at each satelite on the same disquec settings

In USALs, you do not store positions.

If you see USALS =Yes/enabled, stop and disable it. Follow the manual word for word please

I have disabled it and it still wont work disquec I know i cant store positions in usals but cant do anything in disque as no matter how i set it up it wont move the motor. when i enable disquec the green light goes out on the dish motor ?? i have checked all my settings as per the manual.. when disquec is enabled it drops power to the dish

So the old box is set up for USALS? If not you are just hiding the bad alignment with fudged settings. If you use USALS the dish needs to track the arc correctly and be properly synchronized with due south.

again .. i have never used Usals, only Disquec and what I am looking at is that regardless of where the dish is pointing and how badly alligned it might be... when I enable Diseqc the power drops to the motor.. thats with USALS OFF.. if the diseqc is not sending power to the dish then surely the receiver is at fault.
I do NOT want to use usals at all and again with all the settings set correctly for DISEQC 1.2 there is no power going to the motor !!
