I thought only the openwrt routers did?! But still, it involves installing software on to the phone, and the standard configs probably won't work correct. I know on iPad, I had to configure the ovpn file to work for my vpn

My Netgear router has a VPN by default. AFAIK many have. Also a NAS often has VPV-facilities.

The open vpn plugin on the box, as far as I'm aware, is only to connect to the internet via a vpn provider...

What Rob is talking about you doing, is to create a vpn for your network, and use the mobile to connect to the vpn of your network, then, you'd connect to your box as if you're on the local network...

Not something I can see the average Joe being able to accomplish...

I configured OpenVPN as a server on my Vu Duo yesterday. Works great. I can connect to my home network securely from my mobile and laptop. If I get time over the next couple of weeks, I'll do a guide on how to get it all set up.

Have you tried the internal player or VLC both these work fine on my S4

To reduce the risks of using port 80 I have set my router to forward say port 1080 external to port 80 internal and its working perfectly.
I set dreamdroid to connect to my DNS address with port 1080 instead.
Port 80 is a commonly scanned port so it would help a bit...

you need to forward port 80 - this is for access to your box
then you need to forward port 8002 - this is for the streaming part

your also need to have a fixed ip addy otherwise you need to have a ddns account set up

Step 22. The last line of code should be changed to

cp keys/client2.key client2-laptop/client.key

Maybe a good idea to add a final step on how to add /etc/openvpn/ to the ViX backup manager so on fresh flash with a settings restore, none of this should be needed to be done again?

That can only be answered by VU[SUP]+[/SUP], as this is driver related.

From your experience is it something Vu+ would take onboard? Do they usually fix bugs etc do they have a good bad history of this?

Hard to say: some bugs haven't seen a fix for years and some bugs are fixed within a day.
And they don't tell us what they do.
