I've searched the forum and I didn't find an answer.
Do OpenVix programme timers follow the transmitted start and stop codes at all??
Or just follow the padding allowances??
I missed the last 10? mins of the Proms.

There is a System plugin (so under systemplugins in the "Download plugins" options.

It's (now) called vps-orig.

No idea why it has this -orig tag now, but it must have happened recently as I've had vps (safe mode) enabled in all of my (auto)timers for some years, and have seen it showing up in the menu lists recently.

But the name change (vps -> vps-orig) meant that it wasn't installed at at recent update and hence had been switched off.
I've now install vps-orig, so my AutoTimers now set it automatically again.

Does anyone know why/when this name change occured?

When you create a timer from the EPG (or AutoTimer creates one if you are using such), the EPG scheduled start and end times are followed, plus whatever padding you have set before and after.

The VPS plugin will follow the transmitted start codes if you have it installed. It works well for BBC/ITV/CH4 (and variants) on satellite. You can run it in safe mode which will use any padding you set. It's a waste of time for channels (like CH 5) which just transmit the start codes at the EPG scheduled time, rather than when the playout system actually starts the programme.

I have used it for years and I find it works well on the main channels on satellite. What it does is it starts looking for the "running" code when a programme starts at a "before" time which you configure in the plugin. I normally configure 5 minutes. Note that it will switch the tuner to the channel at the configured "before" time, so if you are short of tuners and you are watching something, it will zap to the scheduled channel, thugh not if a recording is in progress. When it detects the start signal it starts recording. It will continue the recording until the "running" status changes, which is at the start of the following programme. It works excellently for say - Coronation Street which often starts a couple of minutes past the scheduled time.

@birdman - there were some tweaks done to the plugin for German/Swiss tv IIRC, so @Huevos renamed it some time back as the tweaks made it unsuitable for FreeSat/FreeView I think. It's some time ago.

@birdman - it was back in March/April this year. OpenATV created a new VPS plugin which wasn't suitable for Vix, so @twol took the original and renamed it to differentiate.

OK. Longer ago than I thought.
So vps-orig should be fine for Vix?

Although if the tweaks were for German/Swiss TV that sounds more like a "work with broadcast system X" than "work with OE variant Y".

vps-orig is what I've been using. It's fine - it's the original I could have misremembered the Swiss/German TV thing.The plugin apparently changed radically and apparently was not suitable for Vix.
