poedit is not so bad and it has a check option. If you think you are ready load it once in poedit and press check. This check does not find all systematic errors but at least some.

Best is to translate all, irrespective of the fact if an Italian word equals the English one.
Open POEDIT and you see how much in not translated; leaving words 'open' disguises the actual result.
