VU+ UNO 4K SE running hot

Hi everybody, i hope everything goes well

I recently bought a vu+ uno 4k se, a used one second hand in like new condition. Everything looks good, no scratches on screen or the shroud, but my only problem is the temperature.

When i watch the HD-FHD channels the temperature is between 64/69 degrees, now when i’m watching the UHD channels, the temperature goes between 71/76 degrees, and i was suspicious about that.

So today, i have disassembled the receiver to check whether the heatsink or the thermal pad was still placed correctly and in good conditions, but when i unscrewed the heatsink and removed it back from the motherboard, the thermal pad broke. So i went to a local store, and picked a thermal grizzly minus pad 8 (30x30x1.0mm), replaced everything back to like it was, and checked everything is well placed, powered on the receiver, and after approximately 15 minutes, the temperature goes between 65/70 degrees.

Please guys, is the 1.0 mm thickness of the thermal pad a right choice? And is there any good cooling solution or either a replacement heatsink for the VU+ UNO 4K SE?

How much ventilation does the box get and does it feel extra hot to touch. I have one box that i use a lot out in the open and raised on 2 pieces of plastic ducting. i dont check temp that often but will today and report back. opening it u was not a good idea. What uhd channels are you watching?? I dont know of any,

Where have you located the box, in a unit or elsewhere?

Touching the box from the top, i feel it hot, but the heatsink instead, if i open the box immediately after powering it down, is a lot hotter, and i can’t keep my hands on it for more than 5 seconds. I have it under the tv, in a three-shelf cabinet, standing alone in the middle, and in free air. I raised it up a bit, with four two-centimeters and a half pieces of rigid foam.

I watch the channels from the two satellites, 13th and 19th, with an annual subscription, like Eleven Sports 1 4k and Love Nature 4K and UHD1 by ASTRA.

As for the original thermal pad, i suspect that it’s 0.8mm thick. So i'd like to replace it with one that have the same thickness, to avoid any problems, because i know that i have made a big mistake when i removed it.

you can always put extra super silent cooler 12 volt in the box .Power can connect to connector HDD

Well! Do you have any idea on a particular cooler, please? So i can buy it from amazon or ebay or anywhere else online?

I mean i don’t know which one to choose, 3 pins, 4 pins, 40x40, or any other size?

any super silent fan with the least db noise and buy a split connector to HDD.In my older VU duo 2 I had Yate Loon

Knowing that the uno 4k se have a 12v 3.5A,
connecting the 12v fan and a ssd into the only hdd connector, is it safe?

I use external 5V usb connected fan. I place it on top of the cover above the vents so it push air through the vents inside the box and the temperature drops to 50 degrees.

I would get rid of the rigid foam and raise box using 2 short pieces of electrical ducting cut to size and the gap allows air to circulate. I have one box in a unit on the flat and its 63-68 and another out in open raised up, not above 60. Dont watch uhd.

FB = fallback tuner ( stream from one box to another via ethernet)

Yeah, that’s what i ended up doing. I raised up but with four, and it’s now at 68 maximum on FHD channels!

And after i searched, i ended up buying two GELID thermal pads one with 0.5mm and the other one with 1.0mm, because they are known as best with better price also! And i’ll test if the 0.5mm is the right thickness or the 1.0mm. So i’ll get around 8-10 degrees less than what i have now, using them.

duo 4K SE is always 62 degrees here as chip temperature
