For some reason my web interface password is no longer working. I must have set this with telnet in the past but for some reason can no longer log in. Is there a way to set the username back to root and the password blank without re-flashing ?
read this before and it worked for me before when I lost my pass!
in telnet you can change the password by typing
passwd -press enter
enter the required password -and press enter again
confirm the password -and press enter.
now its changed.
That only applies if you have not set a password in the first place, it wont allow you to set a new one if you have forgotten the login details. (or at least it did not last time i tried).
The passwd command works whether or not you have changed the password before. It doesn't know who has set the existing (or non-existing) password and when.
You just need to know the root password to be able to log in as root and use the command..
Originally there is no password in the image, so you just press enter if prompted for password.
If it doesn't work and you can't remember the password or find it in any of your own possible notes, you have to re-flash the image without restoring the settings. That will make the root login work without password again.
If you don't know the root password then you won't be able to login over telnet anyway! That only applies if you have not set a password in the first place, it wont allow you to set a new one if you have forgotten the login details. (or at least it did not last time i tried).
