What Else does my VIX VU do? What am i Missing?

Hi All,

Well lets start from the top shall we! I am a simple guy who likes to fiddle around with Tech. I used to have a dreambox 500 but when the Duo first arrived on the market about 4 years ago I jumped on board" NEW TECH!!!!"

Sic created this forum and I joined, Think I was about the 10th member! The Vix image has developed over the years and is almost unrecognisable from the original Vix v1! all changes for the better I might add!

Well as the simple guy that I am I like my VU Duo and my VU Uno, I use them for Watching TV. The missis uses the Auto record on the Duo which was a great addition. I have my Uno hooked up to a Wave Frontier Dish which works a treat. I love the EPG and the Auto bouquet maker, #Genius!

anyway, I know my boxes are far more capable than what I use them for.but I don't know what else they can do other than unlocking all my fav chans, so that's why I have started this post. What do you do with your box that I have not stated here already? am I missing a fundamental feature and all you lot are getting it without me! lol

The thing I am mainly interested in is the Use of IPTV to get streams from Sats that I cant get with my Wave Frontier. mainly sporting events (EPL). I have seen IPTV boxes for about £400 but if mine can do the job then great. As I have been reading there are many IPTV plugins, I am happy to try out a paid service for a higher level of feed quality... I just need to be shown the right direction with a gentle push!

Not so much box specific but some people dont know of, or use some of the basic default ViX features instead installing thirdparty plugins to give the same or a approximation of the same feature as i'll list a few below. ( YUP This is a shamelss ViX plug but as were on the ViX home support board why the hell not LOL )

The ability to pull up a bouquet list while in the graphical EPG by pressing the TV button, the bouquet list will replace the program synopsis on the left hand side and it's fully navigable, to go back to the program synopsis press tv again.

The ability to pull up the Full EPG ( any EPG screen ) while in a movie, you can also set timers and auto timers from here, all without leaving the movie.

CrossEPG 0.7.4 modifications by andyblac allows you to do a EPG scan while in live TV without leaving the channel you'r watching by using a spare tuner ( Ideal for multi tuner boxes ).

ABM, Yes LraiZer has his own Version and thats great but ViX has ABM built rite into the image by default and it simply does a great job of generating a regional Sky uk bouquet, This was the very feature that finally weaned my dad off his sky box and onto a Vu+ Ultimo, now he loves the thing.

Those are just the four that spring to mind and i know some people will say "yes but i can get these on xxxxx image" well yes you may but they were here first and even the Mighty Pli is still trying to catchup ( not that they would ever admit to that mind you ).

as for IPTV, rite now it's still in it's infancy and most IPTV plugins tend to be mainly populated with poor or illegal links that come and go all the time, hopefully we will start to see some more stable and legal plugins in the future as this i believe is going to be one of the main directions TV viewing moves into in the future.

Thanks man the first two things I wasn't aware of but defo good to know. It's interesting you say that you think the future of this tech is in iptv. I agree. I think that 98% of people who have enigma 2 boxes use some kind of sharing capability whether they will admit it or not! Iptv I see as evolution of cccam, you could use iptv around your internal network.

It's interesting tech that I will be keeping a close eye on!
