Vu Duo ViX 2.3 (Linux 3.1.1) 25-12-2011

Got a feeling we only hear about the bad installs on the forums, not the good ones, of which I presume there are 100's if not 1000's more of.

I for one have never had any issues updating, once again using the latest VIX available with all online updates applied.
No issues what so ever & every release gets better.

Hi All

has anyone installed the latest version of vix for the vu+ duo without any problems occurring? Im scared to upgrade to the latest build as all i hear is problems, i installed the download v2.3, but as of yet not updated it to the build 190, as the only problem im getting at the moment is the volume control disappearing,

and for those who have updated without fault, is there an advantage to upgrade to latest build?

thanks

Build 190 is fine, no problems whatsoever. Just do it!

Thanks for your prompt replies, will try the updates tomorrow and see how i get on, hopefully like yourselves i wont get any of the probs that people seem to be reporting

Thanks again

what firmware did you use just the one file 'dvb-usb-af9035-01.fw' ?

we only have stuff in feeds that has been (at least) partly tested. i will make plugin for you if you can reply with the answer to the question about the firmware.

Yes, that's the same filename.

To confirm the validity of what I did, I've done a clean reflash of build 190 and then re-installed my DVB-T device using:
Code:
opkg install kernel-module-tua9001
opkg install kernel-module-tda18218
opkg install kernel-module-mxl5007t
opkg install kernel-module-af9033
opkg install kernel-module-dvb-usb-af9035
opkg install usbtunerhelper

Then copied the firmware file (attached) over to \lib\firmware\, set the file attributes with CHMOD 755 and did a re-boot. This works.

Thanks Andy for the offer of a plugin for this, I reckon there would be quite a few af9035 users and they'll appreciate the convenience of having this rather than trying to follow my example:)

As far as testing is concerned, I can advise that it seems to be working well. I recorded the Australian Open Tennis in HD this evening while watching something else on another frequency. I'll certainly let you know if there are any problems to warn people.

Cheers

After a time (several hours at least) on one terrestrial channel, the picture breaks up and a re-boot is required. This problem also occurs with the dib0700 drivers (using the Hauppauge Nova TD device). So possibly this problem relates to something in common with these two devices. Usbtunerhelper?

This problem was also present on the previous kernel.

To reduce the impact of this problem, I'm using the power manager to reboot each day. I'm hoping this is often enough.

Please accept my apologies, if I have posted in the wrong place, but I'm a complete newbie and this forum is vast and I'm struggling to navigate it.

I want to install ViX for the first time using a USB stick.

The Thread: How to flash a VU+ Duo using a USB stick suggests I need the following files:
  • boot_cfe_auto.jffs2
  • kernel_cfe_auto.bin
  • root_cfe_auto.jffs2

Obviously, they are not in the latest ViX release zip files ... presumably because those names apply to an entirely different image.

The latest ViX release page says I need to flash the boot loader first, but I can't tell how to do that from the file names alone, i.e. the release doesn't seem contain any file containing the word "boot" nor does the release page contain any instructions about how to flash the boot loader or how to flash the image.

Please point me to the place where I can RTFM for this image.

Go into the release thread here http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?14236-Vu-Duo-ViX-2-3-(Linux-3-1-1)-25-12-2011

The file DUO CFE is the bootloader and the other file is the image.

When downloaded extract then to your desktop and than drag and drop the folder VUPLUS to your memorty stick.

Remove all other USB sticks, power down box stick the mem stick in and power up. Once flashed do exactly the same with image.

Tutorial on flashing here http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?3-How-to-flash-a-VU-Duo-using-a-USB-stick

Thanks for all the hard work you do to help people like me to get a great image.

Decided to do a re-install of the latest image and then did an update. When setting up a few things I noticed that Swop Manager no longer gives the option to select the device or the swop size. It's fixed at the installed disk and set at 16Mb. I tried another USB to see if that could be selected but it could not even though Mount Manager recognized it and it's Ext4.

Is Swop Manager working correctly like this or do I have a problem?

Many thanks

Swap manager working fine here but i gave up with using a swap file seemed to cause more problems than it solved

Hmmm, pretty sure I'll sound a bit hash, but: do you really think that saying that you don't want to read the topics about that will be inviting for others to do the work for you

my duo has frozen at random intervals and lost the usb stick mount ever since "upgading" to the 2.3 (3.1.1) 190 so i am going back to previous 2.3 version the new update is faulty

Hmmm, we just released an upgrade.
And as the problem you mention is not a known one, I doubt if degrading would help you out. Maybe you'd better give us a chance to help you?

please do try and help but i have only had these problems since 2.3(3.1.1) 190 it froze once on thursday, twice yesterday and lost connection to the usb three times I have never had any problems with 2.0;2.1 or 2.3 (2.6.18) which is what i have settled on as the playing of media files work better with this version than the earlier versions.

I do not have any log files because i did a full factory reset before installing 2.3(2.6.18)

@Andyblac,

I've now upgraded to the latest build (204) and see that you've been busy as usual and of special interest to myself were the usb dvb-t changes.

I'm happy to say that SNR & Signal Strength now works on my af9035 device (Avermedia Twinstar a825 in my case). I was initially suspicious because it displayed SNR 99% and Strength 99%, however, with the use of attenuators I was able to confirm that these readings do vary... I guess my antenna is pretty good! I'm glad that this was able to be fixed without the need to rely on vtuner changes in the VU+ drivers as you suspected at one stage.

In regard to stability... I've now disabled the power manager daily reboots to see whether this allows the dvb-t freezes to recur. I will let you know whether this remains an issue.

Thank you very much for these patches. Vix beats the others hands down.:)
