Is anyone having issues with the EPG after the recent upgrade to 553? I now have gaps for example CHANNEL 5 HD on the channel list page displays no programme information but other channels do. When i view the channel the EPG info comes up in the info bar no problems yet when i go back to the channel list is gone again. Any ideas guys?

Chris

Use the CrossEPG downloader to refresh the EPG. I had this happen to me straight after the update.

Thanks for the reply, I have already tried that if you mean press the blue button select coolepg download and it downloads the epg again. I have also rebooted several times. I also have download on tune selected. Come to think of it i have the EPG stored to my memory stick in the rear of the box, maybe an issue? I will try internal storage to see if that helps. will update shortly.

*UPDATE*
Change to internal flash, rebooted, forced a EPG download and all details listed now nothing missing! I will change it back to the USB stick again just to confirm but it might suggest a possible bug????

Store the EPG on the internal HDD. There is no benefit having it on flash / USB

I have just tried going back to the USB stick, rebooted and at first they all displayed and once i did a force EPG download it started to miss information again.

With regards to using the hard drive instead flash/USB most of the time my hard drive is asleep. It only wakes up when i need to record or access a recording. Using the flash will save wear and tear on the hard drive spinning all day for no real reason and it will make the box use more power and more heat. This is why i use the flash.

I will just use internal flash from now on. Picons and swap files are on the usb and they work fine so im sure EGP wont take much internal memory.

If you have an internal HDD there is no harm whatsoever storing EPG there, in fact that's what I use all the time.
I also store picons on flash so have no need to have a USB stick on most boxes.

Sorry guys but i don't see the advantage of using a mechanical drive to store small amounts of information. I would have thought USB stick would be the method of choice. I also don't need it spinning all the time, that way i don't get a delay to load stuff like a picon when the drive has to spin up first.

It's likely you just have a corrupted EPG.dat file. the best solution there is to kill enigma with a telnet session and the init 4 command, then delete all copies of the EPG.dat file you can find on all devices, then restart enigma with the init 3 command.

once done re-download the EPG and you should be fine.

unfortunately you have the wrong assumption of how the EPG is handled.

EPG data once initially loaded is held in live memory, it is not read from or stored to the storage media except for bootup and shutdown times, thus a HDD spinning up all the time due to the EPG being stored to it is quite impossible.

The reason we recommend that you use either the HDD or a USB stick for the EPG is because it can corrupt very easily causing the EPG.dat file to grow monstrously large in a very short time period, if this happens while the EPG is saved to the flash it will fill it up in no time and you would have to reflash the receiver to correct it.

EPG only gets read & written to on start-up & shutdown.
It wont keep your HDD spinning at all.

EDIT: Sorry pheonix beat me to the reply...

when i try and update to the latest version of vix using menu->setup->software update i keep getting message 'a background update check is in progress'. Now I have turned off the background check and rebooted the system but the issue persists. I have being trying to do this update for days but continue to get the above message

Love this image. A big thanks to all.

Only one small issue.
It quite often takes 10 -12 secs to change chanells with " VIX" flashing in corner.
Sometimes it's fine others not

Hiya,

I was looking about on a different site which is not for images but other things and lines you can add, if you know what I mean,
anyway, I did a short search on here and come up with nothing,
I think I better make you lot aware that them 'counterfeits', the ones who took there name from a 'fast car'
have released a

secret chip update for F*rr*ri v3.0 only beta release = vu_solo_and_duo_V3.0_secret_update.zip
update file to allow latest vix images on v3.0 duo also blackhole 1.79 works = vuupdate130103.rar

I hate clones and producers of clones, but looks like there ripping off your image again
(i'm an openpli user)

If you want the zip file, let me know

yes were aware and no doubt Vu will once again bring out something to scupper their plans.
