Code:
Software
Kernel version:	3.1.1
Firmware version:	3.0.806
Gui version:	2013-12-16

Flashed 806 from usb yesterday and spent a few hours rebuilding the box.

Went to use MediaPlayer today, get an error
Code:
Module Error: No module named MediaPlayerplugin

There is no crash so no crashlog.

Apparently you installed a plugin that requires the old-fashioned MediaPlayer to be installed. We don't have that and you don't need that.
Please tell us what plugins you have installed.

It was a clean flash, then i added airplayer from the repos and multiquickbutton, and some picons.

I added the "MediaPlayer" function to a key in mqb, returned to watching tv, pressed the key, got the error.

That is why then; the plugin MediaPlayer is not installed, but you assigned a key to it. So pushing that key obviously leads to that correct comment by the box.

Your next question is of course what to do now.
I don't know the functions by heart, but look for something like 'open recordings list'

In mqb you can assign functions or plugins to keys. They have a function "MediaPlayer", and that is the one I selected.

In previous builds (i came from 747 on this occasion) there were two interfaces, the "MediaPlayer", in enigma2 parlance a MediaPlayer screen, which had a file browser element and playlist element.
In addition there was the "Infobar Show Movies" function in mqb which shows the recorded files list.

These were two feature independent implementations, and as far as I could see, built-in or pre-installed with ViX. I didn't note any changelogs mentioning relevant information about removals/changes, but I may have missed them.

I used it to play network files via mounts I had manually added.

I'm assuming the work around is to use the "locations" function of the recording list?

Yes, and as I said there is no MediaPlayer. So any button calling that will fail.

I'm not sure about the actual name used in MQB. But for the STB (on the R/C) the name is something like 'recordings list'. So you must look for an equivalent in MBQ.
And that's not a work-around, that's the normal way of going to playback: the filebrowser opens, you navigate to the desired file, click OK and playback starts.

Look, i appreciate the efforts of the vix devs, vix is the best stb distro out there and it is very good.

When i bought my vu uno i flashed vix onto it. I only have access to what vix gives me.
I ended up with a media player with playlist functionality. I re-flash the latest and its gone.

Forget about what it is called in MQB, it really doesn't matter.

Looking now there is no mediaplayer plugin in any of the standard repos so i could not have installed it other than it being part of the image to begin with.

It just so happens I have another box still on an older build.(729)

/usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/MediaPlayer

It is along with loads of other plugins i did not install but came on the official vix downloaded from the openvix downloads site.
(Such as AudioSync, MediaScanner, PicturePlayer, OpenWebIf - the last being the only one I have ever used)

MediaPlayer is missing from a clean flash of 806, doesn't exist in any standard repos, but is still part of the github repo.

So it would seem that the 806 image is missing something.

Sorry, but you seem to be missing the point. There is no MediaPlayer (as a menu-entry), you don't need a MediaPlayer and you don't miss it.
You navigate to the file you want to play and click OK; what would you be missing then?

With all due respect I am not missing the point.

I was using ViX's built in functionality that has now dissapeared. This was either by design or accident. I think you are missing the point, if it was an accident, perhaps we should find out why to stop other stuff fron the github repos going missing in future builds .

In any event the MQB built for ViX contained this Media Player as an internal function. The previous builds supplied a now missing MediaPlayer plugin in /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/

And to answer your question, how do I setup a playlist functionality in the recording list?

Hmmm, not sure how I can explain better then .....

Let me give it another try:
The old mediaplayer was just a menu-entry (plus some internal rubbish). There was, is and will be no need for it: the very reason it has been removed. It is not available and it will not be made available.
The way to play a file is to go to the file and to click on it. That has always been the case. Life will never be more easy and clear then that.

If you use in MQB to assign a function that is not available on your box, as is the case with 'MediaPlayer, this will obviously lead to an error. So you must just look for the entry that matches 'open file list' or so, as is on your original R/C.

If you understand the above you'll realise that you're not missing anything at all.

I am a software dev (not here) so i understand the intracicies of the situation. I understand what you are saying.

What I am trying to press home, there used to be a screen "MediaPlayer" go look in a skin, it existed. It contained a file list and a playlist (and even some sort of image display for related artwork).

Now, if you are saying this has been removed due to reworking/dev reasons then that is perfectly fine.

The recording list was a seperate implementation for selecting files to play.

I think the problem you are having in understanding is that the recording list and the media player were simply file selectors to feed the actual player. The beauty of the, now gone, media player screen was thr playlist.

I'm not all that bothered about the loss, I can navigate with the recordings list function.

The issue is the moving target. As a software dev I am all too awarevif you put in functionality to something, someone will use it. Even if you think it is duplicated functionality, when you change or remove it, users get annoyed.

I understand ViX dev is voluntary, and very hard work. I appreciate it and, if i had the time, would love to contribute more.

Like I said. Not that bothered, but thought I was doing devs a favour catching a bug/bad build.

Now I'm in front of my older box, might just grab the missing files anyway.

So, there is no way to have a playlist on VIX images?? It's very important specially if you have little kids, you just list some cartoon episodes and let it play them all.

Oh, but that's possible: go to recordings settings and choose the appropriate setting for 'action at end of recording'.
