Tried to upgrade with a fresh flash of 24 but again no network drivers installed. Without access to the internet how can I get the latest updates, plugins etc.

I have used my image backups going back to 12, 14, 19 but it does not restore the drivers. I need Ralink rt3573 for the WiFi and also Em28 for the USB DVB-T2 tuner. Unless I can get an ipk file to install I am stuck in this perpetual loop.

I am really reluctant to leave VIX after all this time but when I tried Blackhole everything worked immediately. Obviously the drivers are included as part of the Image. Why can we not have the same in VIX. If this is not possible then where can I obtain the drivers in a form that I can use. Obviously using FTP is out because I have no Internet access and the router is too far for any direct cable connection.

I presume you mean the wifi drivers and if so then in future please say so. By default the Vu+ wifi dongle drivers are included in the image, all other third party drivers were removed for kernel stability and because they just take up unnecessary space in the image.

Also why did you do a fresh flash ?, if you were on any image from Apollo 015 onwards, you could have just used the online update option thereby keeping all of your existing drivers and settings already in there.

I clearly did say I needed rt3573 for the WiFi. I did not manage an on-line update because I must have had a corrupted file.

I did a fresh Flash because I was under the impression that was what '24' required. All my Images/Backups ( from 12 onwards) did NOT restore the Network, WiFi or the DVB-T drivers.

Instead of making a critic remark I was hoping for more constructive help e.g. where to obtain the drivers if they have been removed from the VIX Image.

You will need to connect receiver using network cable in order to install the WiFi drivers.

Did you make your image backups after installing the WiFi drivers?

Yes. This is what is driving (no pun intended) me mad. As I have said in another thread, I am not able to connect by cable due to the remote distance from the router. In every attempt to restore any of my many Image or Settings Backups, all my needed drivers are NOT installed. To repeat, I cannot use the internet unless either the WiFi (rt3573) or the ethernet driver is installed. I am therefore going round in circles. All the time VIX does not include the drivers in their images it will cause a problem. This is why I am so frustrated. Nowhere can I find ( or someone pointing me to the location) the drivers in IPK form as this is the only way, I believe, that I can install them as FTP is obviously not going to work until there IS a Network connection.
Thank you for your reply.

It is not as simple as providing an ipk as dependencies may be required.

Move receiver next to router and use webif remote to install drivers. Alternatively ask someone to backup an image with drivers installed. This is what I do for someone who had a faulty network port on their receiver. It works fine for us.

WiFi drivers have not been in image for a long time so I don't understand why this is a surprise.

Thanks again.

If someone could make a Solo2 backup image with the drivers installed, that would be greatly appreciated.

As I said I don't want to move away from VIX.

I can now connect a crossover cable directly to my PC. The internet connection is via a remote router which I am not able to connect a cable.

If this is possible what should I set in the Solo2, please?

I think you need to set up a bridge on your laptop to bridge the wired and wireless ports. Google...

use laptop as bridge for internet

...or similar.

I am very grateful. This was most helpful and it work instantly.

Thank you very much.
