[VU+ Solo] HELP - setting up/fixing a Vu+ Solo box

Hi guys, forgive me if I am in the wrong section here I am completely new to this. I also have no idea what I am doing in setting up my Vu+ Solo box I would appreciate any help to rectify my problems.

I have been given a Vu+ Solo box from my dad which was set up on an old version of Vix, however none of the Sky Channels would load. As advised on Tech Kings I have tried to flash the Vu+ Solo with the latest Apollo 30 flash. However once the flash stage has been complete I am receiving nothing but a blank screen on my TV.

I did upload a bootlader I am not sure if it was the latest one though VuPlus here is the one I used http://vuplus.com/downloadSoftwareUpdateContent.htm?idx=5&pagenum=1. I sent it to my usb in vuplus/solo folder. Plugged it in turned on box waited for the green light to flash. I assume that this is the bootloader done.

The next stage I deleted the CFE file from my USB I have download the latest image Apollo 30 from this website and saved these files to the USB: image version, kernel_cfe_auto.bin, reboot.update, root_cfe_auto.jffs2 and splash_cfe_auto.bin. Again I plug in the USB to the box power it back up and watch the box lights change from orange to red and eventually I get a green blinking light again. I then unplug the USB and hit restart (I have tried powering it down and back up again) This is where the box should boot up into the enigma set up right? But all I am getting at this stage is a black screen. The TV is recognised the box as it pops up with 720p output.

Any suggestions on what else I can try to rectify this problem? Maybe a direct link to the correct bootloader and the latest flash?

And just to confirm on the base of the Vu+ solo does have a sticker on the bottom it says Vu+ Solo BN: 02110001 SN: MA002402426.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to extract apollo 30 and save the vuplus folder onto your USB stick with all the files inside.

Also is there a sticker on your box say v2 or v3 as you may have a solo clone.

the solo2 requires no boot loader the latest image Apollo can be found here for the solo version 25-30 http://www.world-of-satellite.com/enigma2/openvix/index.php?dir=Vu+Solo/

From what you have said so far it looks like you have followed the correct procedure apart from when the image has loaded (green light) I normally switch off at the rear first then remove the usb before switching back on.
the process isn't fast for the receiver to reboot the first time but if all has been done right you should see the startup wizard that takes you through the setup of the box following the onscreen setup procedure.
note: because of changes to the image do not if you get asked in the setup wizard to restore previous data say no as your need to start from scratch .
so for now I would confirm what model you do have and try the links to download the boot and image files and start again making sure when you do reboot you give it time to start also another idea if you happen to have a scart on your tv is to plug this in also as the odd glitch some TV's may not see the hdmi at first instead seeing the scart so having both to check might help.

Yes that sticker means it's a clone. How long have you left the box for to boot up? Mine usually takes a good 4-5 minutes on first boot on the solo

I have just followed the above process once more and still no luck unfortunately. Any other suggestions? Can I maybe do some form of factory restore? I am really stuck for ideas to get this working

I left the box on over night once that I had flashed it. Still no picture on the TV. I also tried using a scart lead. The interesting thing is that the TV is picking up 720p output when it goes into what I presume is the boot mode but just a black screen.

Normally these files are inside a folder (I don't have any VU+ receivers) so if correct, I assume that the copied image files reside in a vuplus/solo folder or similar on the USB?

The USB did have the correct folders in guys.

I have just tried flashing the box again. I had the solid green light upon reboot but again a black screen however the light then changed to orange for about 2 minuet then back to a solid green. Any ideas what is going on?

Download apollo 32, extract and place vuplus folder onto USB.

Make sure you have no other devices plugged into any USB connections on your receiver and flash. Takes a few minutes to flash on the solo, wait until you have a green flashing light but I'd wait a few extra minutes before removing USB stick and rebooting.

Hi mate,
That did happen to me before, might not be the same problem, but I left a usb stick in the back of the solo when flashing.
I removed the rear usb & reflashed & booted no probs...
Hope its something as simple as this bud.

Sorry to hear you still having problems can you confirm something for me , when the green led flashes after flashing and you reboot switching off the receiver and removing the usb then switching back on and waiting like 5mins do you see any install wizard on screen I only ask because you say your tv is receiving a 720p output so on your tv are you on the right hdmi channel ? another thing you could try is to FTP the receiver and see if you can see the files loaded you may have to do ipconfig to find out the ip of the box on your network as you just reflashed the user/password will be root - return - return as no password would have been set see if you can see the file structure.

the only other thing is maybe you live near a more experienced user who can visit and see if they can get you back up and running.

By the way if you do manage to ftp the receiver and see the file structure then you need to download a satellite xml file and add to the receiver the reasons for a blank screen is simply because the receiver needs to be config to see the satellite and hence the channels onit to enable you to view.

Also ask your dad if he can recall the version of image which was loaded when he gave you the receiver as you may wanna try to download this version and flash it and see if that resolves the matter we can deal with the loss of channels after first you need to make sure the image is in the receiver and another suggestion is to try another usb stick it could be the receiver is going through the process as it should but not reading from the stick .

Thank you mate for your suggestions I will attempt to do the ones I know how to do i.e reload the previous Vix Image is was back 2011/2012 he used so any ideas which image that would have been? There is absolutely no install wizard what so ever being shown on the screen buddy nope.

I don't suppose there is a tutorial or you could tell me how I can FTP the box? I am really bloody new to this and have no idea what I am doing.

As for the shout out for people living me Ill send a message to anyone now that is in the Bristol area that could potentially help me out. Thanks for your help thus far. If you could talk me through the FTP process that would be magical.

i flashed my original solo last night with apollo 32 but as your box is old may need the solo bootloader done first on your original box and i use the one under the front flap and i use an itegral 8gb as it has a flashing body.flash bootloader for solo first.format usb first to fat 32 and make sure any compressed files are extracted and sent then to usb.

only insert/remove usb with box unplugged for safety

when done green flashing light will appear,then unplug and remove usb reformat usb

download newest file and extact to usb again.
