[ViX_Misc] re-flash and filezilla login

Hi, please bear with me as im very new to this and not very tech minded.

I have recently been unable to do a software update, but noticed that I need to re-flash my max digial xp 1000 box. I seem to understand how to do that, but I'm need to log into the box via filezilla, just to know when the cccam goes incase I need to put it back it. not sure if backup does that for me.

but when I tried to get into the via filezilla, it won't connect, despite what ip I use it just doesn't connect.

can anyone help me out, with the finding the correct setting to log into filezilla, or will the backup auto keep the cccam and I wont need file zilla

Your cam and it's config files will be included in a settings backup.
Using filezilla, the username is root & the password is left empty unless you changed default settings.

Do you have ftp service running on the box? See Menu -> setup -> system -> network -> ftp settings
(I'm not sure about the exact menu texts in English, because I have the language setting on my own box set to Finnish)

I'm also having a similar problem, I'm trying to access my LX3 using Filezilla. When I first installed the Vix image & set the box up (newbie 6 weeks ago) I don't know exactly what I did but I was able to see the root & the hard drive on my home network, in fact I copied all of the movies I had on my Prodigy over the network. But after a bit of a hiccup I had to do a complete re-install, now I can't see the box & if I try to connect to it using Filezilla I get a critical error, could not connect to server with line 331 "please specify the password" & line 530 "logon incorrect". any body tell me what I'm doing wrong please?
Just as a footnote, ftp is running & if I look in network neighbourhood in the receiver I can see every other device on the network, but I cant expand any of them, (I am sure I can remember being in here before & being able to browse other shares in the network?) & during the initial set up (the one I had a bit of a hiccup with) I lost the internet connection mid way through a plug-in install (my BT router fell over), could this have something to do with it?

Correct IP? correct username & password, root is the username & passord is left blank by default.

Install SAMBA and/or NFS
Menu -> Setup -> System -> Network

Thanks for the reply, the IP is definitely correct, it's the oni which is listed on the hub (ive set it to always use same) &it's the one which is listed in the box in network neighbourhood. I have installed Samba & can now see network shares but I cannot see the box from any other computer on the network. I have an xtreamer prodigy connected to the same switch &I can see that from my laptop & win8 tablet but not the LX3

Just as a footnote I have scanned my network from my win8 tablet using angryIP scanner & the box pings at 3ms but a network search using the address which shows up in angryIP (the same as I have been using for filezilla) comes up blank.
