Hi
I have always had this strange line of dashes at the top of screen reaching from top left to half way across screen. It only happens on a very few channels, but those channels are - for the sake of a description - 'cheap' channels. (my words only)

Strangely enough, when the movie or programme changes to an advert break, then these dashes disappear.

I have had this anomaly ever since I bought the Gigablue, but, because I rarely find anything I want to watch/record on these channels, I have just lived with it.

I have tried numerous things, including setting overscan on the TV (which is the only thing that gets rid of the dashes), but since I don't want to keep the overscan on, nothing else will get rid of them. Note: the settings for screen position on my box only effects the VIX dialogs/meues etc, not the picture position. Screenshot attached.

Any ideas?Untitled.webpUntitled.webp

Have you tried entering the screen setup and stretchin it one or 2 more lines,,, and then moving it up or down so it is bang on in the middle?

MENU>SYTEM>SETUP>USER INTERFACE>POSITION SETUP

Try that.

That's pretty normal on some channels.

Thats simply the garbage leftover by the broadcasters, it is usually hidden by the default overscan feature on all tv's and only visible when overscan is disabled. There is nothing you can do about it except live with it, unless you want to reactivate overscan.

That, as I mantioned, only effects the VIX dialogs and menues etc. It doesn't move the picture position at all.

I thought it might be broadcaster junk - it did remind me of the old days when you could see similar junk. I will just live with it. I may drop an email on the bradcasters, but they will not care anyway.

The broadcasters could care less, the vast majority of users tv's still have overscan enabled by default, in fact only a very small number of the population have ever heard of overscan let alone have it disabled.

It seems to me that VIX expects overscan to be off on my TV. If I have overscan on, then it takes a whole bunch of adjustments to re-fit the VIX dialogs to the screen. Witrh overscan off, VIX dialogs fit perfectly.

That 'whole bunch of adjustments' are exactly 2 buttons in one screen, showing direct result

And yes, indeed, of course: as your box is intended to present you an HD-picture the pre-sets are made accordingly. But if you really prefer that every pixel of your TV-screen shows you around 0.95 video-pixel, which is then neither HD nor SD but garbage, we have this simple method to make the necessary adjustments :)

Yes, as should any other box you connect to your TV.

It has been suggested here that most TV have overscan on by default (seems my Panasonic plasma TV defaults to overscan off -as far as I remember anyway)

If it is true that most default to overscan on, then I would imagine most users need to adjust for the VIX menues/dialogs etc.

On mine with overscan off, the VIX menues/dialogs fit perfectly;

Not so. If I switch on overscan on my TV, then it takes many small trial and error adjustments to get the VIX menus/dialogs to fit, and even then, there always seems to be one or another view that comes up screwy.

I agree with your main point regarding the pixel ratios needed, that is why I do not use overscan - however, this has lead to my original post regarding the garbage at top of screen on those 'cheap' channels.

Why would you want overscan enabled if it can & should be switched off?
Also, its more convenient to have positions set to 0 in the image as no box can guess every TV manufacturers or models overscan levels.

Given this comment I enabled overscan and adjusted the OSD-size. As I said (concurrent with my previous experience) this was really straight forward; adjust size & position vertical and horizontal, seeing the result immediately.
So I don't understand where your issue stems from, unless you used a skin that doesn't hold a proper adjustment screen.

Hi
I have a modern 3D Panasonic Plasma TV, and overscan off. My Gigablue is almost factory set, default skin. I have not installed any plugins/addons.

When I switch on overscan, I find I need to adjust the VIXmenus/dialogs for both posityion and size to get them to fit. I can only get this to work with many tweaks to the size, as when I get one particular 'dialog' looking good, I usually find something else that has been effected and needs more tweaking. It seems to take many such tweaks to get everything to fit properly. Other things are effected too, such as font sizes etc.

If you read my posts, you will see that I do *not* want overscan on.

Then why moan about it ?. ViX has always built the default skins to HD quality rather than compensating for the piss broadcasters who rely on dumb users not knowing about overscan to hide their failings.

some other teams provide skins that by default compensate for overscan but there are too many manufacturers who all use slightly different standards and to compensate for them all would require too much guess work and in my opinion ruin the overall user experience for the end user.

Hi

Why the aggresive response from you? It seems to me that you haven't even read the previous posts!

I posted here regarding some artifacts present on some channels. This led to a discussion about overscan, which I replied to.

Your attitude is abysmal.

I did not 'moan' about anything.
