Hi, I'd like to install Vix on a brand new Vu+ Solo2 I've just purchased from a UK online store, I'm 100% convinced its a genuine box. Yesterday I tried to install Vix but got no where. Here's what I did: Formatted a 2GB usb stick, downloaded and unzipped what I think is the latest build for the solo2 from this website (openvix-Hades.018.release-vusolose_usb.zip) I copied the VU file onto the USB in which contained a folder called solo2 and then this had the files for the build. I turned off the VU box at the rear, insert the USB turned on and the VU box just booted up as if there was no USB stick. So as another test I went to the official VU website and downloaded their most up to date firmware for the solo2, I unzipped, reformatted the USB copied and pasted the VU folder, turned the VU box off at the rear, inserted the USB, powered back up and still the box booted up as if no USB inserted. Today I repeated this with a different USB stick using the official solo2 firmware and the update worked so I now have the latest official solo2 firmware. So it seems it didn't like the first USB stick I tried. I've since tried the VIX build but the VU box just boots and doesn't give the upgrade option. Do I first need to update the Bootloader? I've checked the Solo boot loader file on this website but once unzipped it only contains 1 file, the other VU boot loaders seem to contain several files. I'm a bit nervous about trying to install this as it is as I don't want to break the box. Any help suggestions appreciated.

I installed hades018 a few days ago. Constantly trying to install without success. Then I realised you have to press the power button on front of box when instructed to do so from the info bar on front of box. That's what I was doing wrong. Maybe yours is same reason.

Or......FTP the zip file to media/hdd/imagebackup and then use restore via the blue button.

thought I didn't see it in the image section. any idea on where or what to use Andy?

All you need to do is flash the image.
Just make sure usb stick is formatted to fat32 and extract files to root of the usb stick. Turn receiver off n then insert to the front usb port n turn the receiver back on, and when prompted press the ok on the front of the receiver. [emoji106]🏼

Thanks for the replies so far. So I have unzipped the download and placed the VUplus folder on the root of the USB stick but the VuBox doesn't give the upgrade option when I power it back up it just boots into normal operation, it did do this when I downloaded the official firmware from the VU website and I had to touch the power button to get it to take the update. I've not tried FTPing it to the box, I could give that option a go. I did also notice there doesn't seem to be a solo2 bootloader in the boot loader section, I just thought maybe the solo was the correct one? Wasn't sure if updating the bootloader was required before it'd take the VIX as my box is currently in new manufacturer state.

Do not try flashing an incorrect bootloader. There is no VU released bootloader for the Solo2, so just the image needs to be flashed.
The soft touch power button on the box needs to be pressed in the first few seconds of the box booting, with a correctly formatted USB stick with the image extracted to that USB stick correctly.

Try a different USB key mate, I use a cruzer edge, works every time. Linux boxes are quite discerning when it comes to USB keys ;-)

1) use a usb bigger than 8GB
2) use front facing USb
3) make sure no USB is being used other than the one at front which you will use to update.
4) if all else fails give it back because it may not be a original.

I would try a older build of vix as there is no bootloader for solo2

Nonsense, except fot the "3) make sure no USB is being used" bit.

But you are not staying on the safe side.

Larger USB sticks normally give issues. Smaller ones are fine.
Some receivers prefer the rear slot.
If it was a clone, it will flash and could brick.

I dont know iv always had problems with smaller USB sticks to be honest always have used a 8GB-64GB USB without any problems

I have a 2gb kingston and it works every time, other brands i have had problems with.

OK, so tried a different USB but still didn't want to know, I've now one of the older builds and got the update option so maybe the newest build has an issue. All working great for me now.

where did you purchase from? if not flashing, then I would suggest a clone. I use a 1gb usb and never had issues

I bought it from a UK online Satellite/Freeview retailer. It is genuine, not a clone, I was able to download the latest VU firmware from the VU+ website and that installed fine and worked no problem, as I mentioned I finally got Vix to install by downloading a slightly older build, I just found the latest build wouldn't work for some reason. I tried a couple of different branded USB sticks in the front of the box, no other USB's connected, its just with the newest build when I booted the box I never got the update option.

You can flash the image using Image Manager. This is occasionally referred to as couch flashing.

Make a folder called "imagebackups" on your HDD or USB stick. Transfer/Copy image file to it and then flash it using Blue > Vix > Image Manager
