Hi,

I just couch flashed 4.16 on a Duo2, and everything seems working well except that I can't use SCP or SFTP for file transfer (I prefer not to use FTP). SSH works without problems, I thought that SCP and SFTP used the same port and protocol, but I cannot make the connection with any of the programs I used before (winscp, bitvise and secureshell).

In the network setup there is no mention of SSh and other secure protocols, do I need to load a plugin or change some configuration?

Thanks,

G

Nothing?

Is it because no one uses secure protocols or no one has the same problem with SCP and SFTP?

Should I try a reflash?

If SSH works, then maybe you need to specify the port number when using SCP. eg SCP -p 22222 ..........

I use ssh and and scp all the time. (Since I use scp from a Linux command line I don't normally use sftp, but I do know it has worked in the past).

(You don't need separate ports - they all run via the same listener).

I have set-up server keys (and added them to the backup) so that I don't get prompted about these at each software update.

Thanks, can you confirm that it's working in 4.1.016?
I use Linux at work but at home I have Win so I have to use the usual win file transfer progs, and as I said none works.

No - it doesn't (so perhaps I had never used it...):
Code:
[parent]: sftp root@mbtwin
sh: /usr/lib/openssh/sftp-server: No such file or directory
Connection closed
You'll need to install the openssh-sftp-server package.

You have ssh to the command line and use:

Code:
opkg install openssh-sftp-server

I can't see any way to do it via the menus...

Thanks, now it works!

But I don't understand why it was left out from this version, was it an error or a decision of the team?

Hey how did u manage to get it to work? im having trouble with with getting SFTP to work. scp works no problem but im getting terrible transfer speeds and im getting disconnected while transferring some big files. I was hoping to use sftp with transmit as i usually get far better speeds with transmit and filezilla using FTP. im hoping it will be the same with SFTP.

this is the error im getting from filezilla when trying to use SFTP
Code:
Status: Connected to XXX.XX.XX.XX
Error: Received unexpected end-of-file from SFTP server
Error: Could not connect to server

i get this error "The user name or password was not accepted by the server." with transmit but the same keys work with SSH and SCP.

I have tried trying to connect via SFTP with password authentication on and still get the same result. so it couldn't be the keys that are the issue.

from doing a little more investigating it appears dropbear doesnt support sftp.

any ideas how i could enable dropbear to work with the SFTP protocol or any other SFTP software i could install on the box.

Not sure where you got that from, but it's incorrect in terms of being able to run sftp on a ViX box.

This is what I got:
Code:
[revo]: sftp root@et8000
bash: /usr/libexec/sftp-server: No such file or directory
Connection closed
so I logged in to the box and installed openssh-sftp-server:
Code:
root@et8000:/media/hdd/GMLbits# opkg install openssh-sftp-server
Installing openssh-sftp-server (7.3p1) on root.
Downloading http://openvixdev.dyndns.tv/feeds/openvix/developer/5.0/et8000/mips32el/openssh-sftp-server_7.3p1-r0.1_mips32el.ipk.
Configuring openssh-sftp-server.
then tried again:
Code:
[revo]: sftp root@et8000
Connected to et8000.
sftp> ls
logs
sftp> quit
