We only do original boxes on here you stupid idiot

Aww shucks did you put on your big boy pants to say that ?.

I mentioned two receivers a original duo (aka old duo) and a duo 2. Only the original duo needs the cache flush plugin.

I Kind of know what "we" support here. I was a mod / admin / beta tester for five for five years on this very forum.

Laughing my farking arse off.

Hi 1stein,
try fresh flash without restoring settings and measure again. 75 is to long.

ciao

i don't think that it has anything to do with settings.
but i have to do a fresh setup anyway for 4.2 so we will see.
maybe i try the original image as well. my zero still has the original image installed and boots up in 40s.
so, something is seriously wrong with my duo2.

had a bit time to burn today... and installed 4.2.011... fresh setup...
boot time now is 60 seconds... hurray...
but i still think that you can do better than this. ;-)

Hi,
fresh or fresh and naked? My full blown Duo2 (image size around 200MB) with tons of plugins, several network connections and so on takes only 70sec.

ciao

naked... no plugins installed, no network connections. just configured tuners and reloaded services.

It's a box using a 4+ year old CPU, 4 years of advancement in the image have lead to a slightly longer boot time, is saving 6 seconds or 10% of the boot time a major issue? Unlikely. You'll have wasted way more time than a week of daily reboots posting about it in this thread. If you want to save a few seconds spend £349 on a Solo4k or £229 on a HD51, both will boot a lot quicker than the Duo2, but the cost to save a few seconds is crazy, also in 4 years time they will likely be slower to boot than they are today.

Code:
[enigma2.sh] Do not send enigma2 debug messages to the serial port. D…
…oing so is impacting performance on all boxes when debug logs are disabled.
i think this change improved boot time from 75s to 60s.
thank you @huevos

yes, i read that solo 4k boots in about 35s and hd51 in 20s (optenatv).
eventually i will upgrade to such a box... not the solo 4k, but maybe a hd52 or a gigablue 4k.
but, i still think that boot time of the older boxes could be improved as well by a bit optimization... which will help the faster boxes too.

I take your point, optimization perhaps could shave a few seconds off boot time, but in a reward/gain calculation it's going to come quite low down the list as i'd imagine most people use standby. I confess i've not timed my 4K, but it's noticeably quicker to boot than my Solo2.

I also agree on the Solo4K, it's Marmite (and I don't mean it's about to go up 12% in price, though that's probably coming). It's a box I never wanted to own as it's likely to become a victim of it's rush to be first to market sooner or later. I reckon i'll have had my money's worth by then. The other benefit that came from this is Kodi - unlike the Solo2 it actually runs at what i'd describe as an acceptable pace. The HD52 is suggested to be a minor update for the HD51 with FBC, though the HD51 is supposed to have FBC as an upgrade path. I'm thinking it may get more RAM. The Gigablue 4K looks interesting as a hardware enthusiast, I just don't see any sign of it hitting it's slated due date.

Hi,
your car gets faster if the door opens faster? My boxes power on timer based so even 5 minutes would not matter. My main box will boot in 43 Minutes and I will be at home in 50-60 minutes. The optimization time is better spend in routines during normal operation and bug hunting.

ciao

i'm still looking into this issue and found out that it already takes quite a while before enimga2 is loaded. why is that?
afaik know only uboot is executed and the kernel is bootet... that should not take long... should it???

just read that the DM900 is supposed to boot in less than 10 seconds. so it can be done. and i suspect it's not just the faster chipset that achieves the fast boot time by itself.

I think you'll find its very much image dependant.

Very basic image might achieve this.

would you consider a vix fresh install without any additional plugins, etc. basic?

Hardly surprising as every new image contains more than the last hence my argument that the original duo should no longer be supported but that's been falling on deaf ears for two years so I don't bother any more. My solo2 is lightning fast but that's still on the hades series image and working great.
although its a lot slower these days a basic setup on a duo still does the job so i hope they continue to ignore you

no he is not.read his quote he says hes been arguing that the original duo should not be supported anymore and to say two years is daft as the forum supporter has just lately stopped selling the duo

He's talking about the Vu+ Duo2 not the ageing Vu+ Duo.
