Hello,
I flashed my vu+ duo to the latest VIX 1.3 image. I went through the setup wizzard en configured settings and network connection. I have a USB stick (128MB) that is mounted as HDD. I put in new settingslist and install cccam wich all work perfect.
Then i want to configure crossepg. I set it to EPG location "HDD" wich is my USB stick, I select the sources.
When i press "download now" i see on the bottom of my screen alot of action in the EPG download window but that is where the problem begin. He doesn't download any data. When i select almost all rytec sources the downloader is finished in about 15 seconds. When i look in EPG database it is only a few Kb in large.
What could be the problem??
I use no swap, are the sources to old and should i put new ones??
Can anyone help me.

PS should there no be an xmltv importer plugin. I can't see it anywhere in download section

likewise. however i suspect issue is that epg has not been updated over weekend. suggest you try again tomorrow. will likely work fine then. there are the odd times when crossepg is not updated. today just happens to be one of those times

Did you have this problem before or after the bouquet installation, if after, do a full rescan and it will be OK. I had problem with CE when I installed a bouquet set, it would basically hang for a few seconds and than exit but the above sorted it out. Its working fine as DL data today.

I first installed the bouquet. Configuring cross EPG is acutually one of the last steps i do when i flashed a new image.

So if i flash a new VIX image again do i have to install something else to get crossEPG working or should it just working fine with standard VIX image without installing some other components?

Thanks

Offcourse it has not updated over the weekend. I flashed a new image last evening so everything was ereased. I started from scratch. Before VIx i used PLI and that was working fine.

No you dont need to download any extra plugins for it to work, can you do a screen dump of your configure screen?

The EPG plugins are tricky to get working properly at the best of times. However, if you're using Rytec sources, their site currently has problems.
They have temporarily set up and are offering different download links which I found on their forum at the PLi site.
That comes in the form of a rytec.sources.xml file which you ftp over the existing one, but it is only convenient for usage with the Rytec or RyVix plugin. CrossEPG, from what I can tell, would need individual config files updated manually to reflect the Rytec url changes, which is quite tedious.

edit: according to posts on the PLi site, the normal Rytec download urls are now working properly.

Ok i reflashed totally new image VIX 1.3. So it would be better to use RyVIX if i wan't to use the Rytec sources? What should i do know? copy over the latest rytec.sources.xml?
What is the first step i should do now.

Thanks for the answers already

You dont need a new sources file. (that was a temp one while the issue was being sorted)
Yes, that was what I meant.
There is however a newer sources file than that offered by the ViX image. Regardless of the temporary file and problems.

Ok thanks. What exactly is EIT / MHW / freesat / viasat EPG. Can i leave these on "NO" (disabeld)

The EPG options, and how they come together, are a mystery to me which I suspect will remain so.
I have requested a tutorial or detailed explanation on this and another forum, but nothing suitable has been offered so I have given up.
I suspect very few people actually know how it all works.

Tuneboy,

I can add some basics for you. Some people know more, some people know less :-

EIT / MHW / freesat / viasat EPGs are 'live' data from the satellites.
In CrossEPG, 'OpenTV' is also live data and gives listings for Sky UK and Sky Italy.
All the other sources in EPG plugins are created by one or more people by 'scraping' TV listings from various websites. When you select and use them, they are downloaded from wherever they are hosted. Those urls are defined in one or more config files.

You probably need to set up and use a 'swap file' with the image because using the EPG plugins seems to max out the memory in the receiver.

In the case of CrossEPG, a successful manual download can be noticed by, at the end of its process, the receiver returning you to the channel you were originally watching along with the CrossEPG main menu. Anything else suggests the process has failed or has crashed Enigma.

In Rytec or Ryvix, a successful manual download is denoted by the plugin's EPG Import Configuration menu showing a line at the bottom of it showing when the 'last' update was done. If you don't see that line, it's probably failed or crashed Enigma.

I think you always have to manually restart the receiver to effect any manual EPG download.

The above is pretty much the extent of my understanding.

Ok thanks for info
So it is either CrossEPG or RyVIX i should enable. If they are both enabled this should cause troubles wright?

I think theoretically they should all merge together into the one epg.dat, however in practice I find it is better to use CrossEPG or RyVix, not both. By 'better' I mean it seems Enigma is less likely to crash or give an incomplete EPG.

By the way, the 'XEPGDB' sources appear to be compressed or special versions of the Rytec sources. They download much faster than the normal Rytec sources. However I don't know who actually compiles them. They download from a 'krkadoni' site.

You have to guess to some extent what any of the human-made EPG sources deliver in terms of packages because their names are rather vague, but try to avoid duplicating data such as by using two similar sources. This can make an excessively large EPG leading to more crashes or slow loading times.

There is also some kind of 'priority' logic in place which decides which data over-rides other data, but I have no idea what that logic is.

PS I tend to forget it exists, but there is an EPG support sub-forum on this site. It's way down the forum list, so scroll down to find it.
CrossEPG itself seems to only really be supported elsewhere in Italian. They are on Google Code but there is very little information.
Rytec have a support forum on the PLi images site. They also appear to post on this site.

I personally do manual downloads so I can sit and watch it happening, then I force a manual restart of the receiver, meaning I have a fairly good idea of whether or not it worked properly. However I think the automatic timed downloads should work.
You'll notice that CrossEPG and Ryvix have similar but slightly different available settings for automatic downloading.

Do I trust and feel confident about the receiver's EPG options and plugins? No, but that's mainly because I've largely had to guess how they work.
If you find any problems, it can be hard to work out whether the problem is due to a specific plugin or its implementation in the image.

just too add.

you have to remember that you will never get a perfect epg on any thing other than a official box. these epg's are not professionally made, they are provided by hobbyists just like you and me. if you want a perfect epg you will need to use a original box provided by the service provider as they spend large amounts of money developing their epg.

I do have an official box for the belgium channels and indeed the EPG is working fine there. But the box is so closed you can't do anything with it :)
As for now the EPG on vu+ is working again. Thanks for all the help and support

Greetz

Still have one question. Is it possible to put the EPG text in another color in the channel list? Now it has the same color as the channel name.
