[AMKIO-VIPER-4K] External DVD Problems

This is my first post on the forum, so apologies if I am posting in the wrong place!

I recently bought an Amiko Viper 4K V20 UHD Combo

The specification states that it supports external dvd players.

I want to play DVDs/CDs through the box, and am trying to connect a Lite-on DVD player, but cannot get it to work. The player appears under “Set-Up>Vix>Mount Manager” (as an HDD!), but refuses to play any type of disk. Any attempt to play a disk results in the STB locking up, with just the “VIX” logo rotating in the top corner of the screen, after which I have to power off, and re-boot.

I have tried installing the DVD player plugin, which makes no difference.

I would be very grateful for any advice on how to proceed

No mention of dvd drive support there. But it must be supported by the image in any case

When the harddisk.py & hotplug code was being re- written, a dvd player was attached and I think some disk could be accessed, but the support was poor. There is/was code added to Openpli but I am not sure if that still works or even if it did, whether it would work in python 3

I found "setDVDSpeed" function mentioned in Pli, ATV and Vix's harddisk.py code.

Something was put in to the code but as you say, poor support and no idea is/if it still working

When I purchased it, the spec clearly stated "External USB DVD drive support" under "More Features".

My first attempt to solve the problem was to contact W-o-S Technical Support, who were unable to help me. They just said that "they were reliant on Amiko for specifications"

It would seem that they have now removed that reference.

But what does DVD drive support mean? Able to play commercial DVDs and CDs or just able to use a DVD player/writer to store (read/write) data on a suitably formatted (EXT4??) R/W CD or DVD disk? The OP says that the player is seen as HDD in the mounts manager.

Not a clue, but one of their boxes claims to support it (and the OP may have mixed it up with the one he bought).
