What type of support thread are you creating?
Support question
What OpenViX Image build number are you using?
6.4.011
Have you tried re-flashing WITHOUT settings restore?
NO
Have you tried re-flashing WITH a settings restore?
NO
Hi, I have a problem updating files in my zgemma running 6.4.011. I can log in to the box directly and see all the files in their relevant folders aand the box itself works fine. I used to be able to also log in using Filezilla to modify and update files, but when I try to do this now, I can only see the folders, but not their contents. If I click on a folder in Filezilla it says "empty folder". I suspect it's something to do with W11 as I recently upgraded from W10, but can't get my head round what it could be. Can anyone throw some light please? Thanks for reading

I wasn't asking for anyone to look at or into the problem, only to say if they happened to have come across it before and knew anything about it as it is a somewhat odd problem. I really don't want to update/reflash as the box is currently working fine and I suspect it's not a box/ViX issue anyway. More likely to be network comms or firewall/security thing. Never mind.

if DHCP is enabled perhaps your box has other address now

Usually, when a user posts an issue, we like to try and analyse the problem and resolve it through software change if necessary. But it needs to be on a software version that we can load on a test box. Older versions won't have available plugins etc., which is why I suggested you upgrade. If you don't want anyone to investigate I can close the thread if you wish - your choice.

being nice, I booted my Win11 system (I normally use Linux) and it crashed 6 times trying to install an update - eventually managed to reboot and ran filezilla no issues ..... but Windows 11 is really just CRAP.
Really helpful message, access windows.com/stopcode and enter failure message - well that doesn,t happen just lists all the possible fixes providing you have a working solution, fails to mention the obvious replace Windows.

There has been an issue with windows 11 and network connectivity to other devices reported on other fora owing to older versions of samba being blocked. One such post is by user `ferra1`

You've assigned a root password?
and
Open the Filezilla FTP program.

  1. From the menu bar at the top of the screen select Server.
  2. Select Force showing hidden files.
  3. In the Remote Site panel on the right, you should now see all of your files including any hidden ones.

Firewall configuration comes to mind. But maybe try this as it is simple and should only take a few precious minutes to do:

Quick Recipe: Switch to SFTP in FileZilla

  1. File → Site Manager (top left of FileZilla menu screen)
  2. New site
  3. Protocol: SFTP – SSH File Transfer Protocol
  4. Host: 192.168.1.42 (your ZGemma IP)
  5. Port: 22
  6. Logon Type: Normal
  7. User: root (or your user)
  8. Password: <your password>
  9. Click Connect

If that works, you’ll immediately see all the files without ever touching passive/active or firewall rules.

Hi again, and many thanks to the various kind users who have made sensible suggestions to resolve my little problem. I have always kept the box on a reserved IP address and kept hidden files ticked in filezilla. I have now also tried the suggestion above from el bandido but filezilla comes back with "could not connect to server". Thank you kind people, again, though! I also suspect firewall issue

Although my experience of win10->11 has been (remarkably) good, odd things can happen. A few suggestions regarding your challenge:
Could you have more than one version of Filezilla on yr PC? Remove and (re)install latest.
Windows Firewall now enabled but you used to rely on router firewall only? Tread carefully...
AntiVirus changed/new firewall settings.
Directory filters in FZ enabled (unlikely, I imagine as you've checked such things already).

Main point is that a) In my experience Vix upgrades always work fine and (b) They are also reversible - if you save your current image/backup. So you might consider saving your current setup and upgrading to the latest version. Probably not the main issue, but then the nice mods on this forum will then be able to support you given some sort of baseline for comparison! There are enough rabbit holes in the universe without coping with previous versions as well! :)

Good luck...

The Most likely culprit: The Windows 11 firewall is blocking FTP data connections.
Windows 11 has stricter firewall rules by default. Try:
Control Panel → System and Security → Windows Defender Firewall → Allow an app through firewall
- Find FileZilla and ensure both Private and Public are checked
- If not listed, click "Allow another app" and add FileZilla

Windows 11 often sets networks as "Public" by default:
Settings → Network & Internet → Ethernet (or Wi-Fi) → Network profile
- Change from "Public" to "Private"

Windows 11 SMB/FTP Protocol Changes
Try enabling legacy protocols:
Control Panel → Programs → Turn Windows features on/off
- Check "SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support"
- Check all sub-options under it
- Restart computer

Thanks, el bandido, for taking the trouble to try to help. Greatly appreciated. However, having tried all the things you suggested but without success, I've now found that the problem actually lay with Filezilla itself. Somehow (don't know how) it was "filtering" all folders/directories. For anyone else who might encounter the same problem, just go into View>Directory listing filters and uncheck everything. All files magically reappear. I have no idea how they became checked in the first place, certainly I didn't do it! Anyway, all solved now. Thanks again to everyone...

Just posted that Directory filters were in fact enabled. All of them, don't know why! But you were right, Jerry, thank you. Sorry not to have picked up on your wisdom previously!

I have been using Filezilla for years, under Win 10 and also under Linux Mint. Would be interested to read what went wrong in Linux.

The OP was using Windows 10 and changed to Windows 11 and somehow directory filters setting was enabled in FileZilla. His reference to W11 as shorthand escaped me originally as I thought he was referring to OpenVix 6.4.011 (coincidence!). So, nothing wrong with linux (or OpenVix) - just a settings reversion in FileZilla on MS Windows.
