This tutorial aims to show you how to take screenshots from your receiver like the ones you see here below. This process will work on all E1 and E2 machines regardless of images used on those receivers.

About Screen:

Backup Manager:

Backup Manager Settings:

Backup Manager File Selection:

Restore Wizard 1:

EPG Menu:

Softcam Settings:

the honors for these particular screenshots go to pooface from his ET9000 ViX 2.2.100 release thread below.

http://www.world-of-satellite.com/s...eTech-Xtrend-ET9000-Image-v2.2.100-21-07-2011

now in order to take screeshots / dumps, like those above you first need to login to your receiver via TELNET session. for this you can use a third party application such as "putty"
Code:
http://www.putty.org/
.

Or like my self if your operating system has a inbuilt telnet client you can use that ( i my self use the inbuilt client within windows 7, this however must be activated first as Microsoft disable it by default )

ok so now you have managed to initiate the telnet session you can use the following two commands to create your screenshot.

grab -o -p /tmp/grab.png [change grab to the file name you want it to be]

This first command will allow you to do a screen grab without the image of the channel you are watching.
Useful for when you want to only grap the current screen of a menu item

--
grab -d -p /tmp/grab.png [change grab to the file name you want it to be]

This command will allow you to do a screen grab with the image of the channel you are watching
Useful for when you want to show a channel or an error in the channel / program

--

your screenshots will be created as .png files and will be sent to /tmp directory for you to retrieve via FTP.

please note the above screenshots are all examples of using the second command as at the moment i am not near my receiver so i can not post examples of images created using the first command.

I would once again like to thank pooface for the images above as taken from his ET9000 ViX 2.2.100 release thread and for providing me with the commands in the first place.
so there you go, i hope this Tutorial helps and if you have any suggestions on how to improve or edit this tutorial then please don't hesitate to contact me.

I always wonder,d how this is done, but never botherd to ask

so thanks, very use full

Learn something new, never knew you could rename it within the grab command:thumbsup:

Do you need the -d there as grab -p does it with the channel image.

just for yr info guys

an very easy command to add to this brilliant tutorial and nice and easy to remember

this will give a grap in jpg format inside of /tmp and with all screens and menus

Code:
grab -j100

cheers for that bud.

any way to use this in a simple shell script & save images with a time stamp?
I have an xfactor blog & during the show, I'd love to run a script that would take screen shots every minute or so, then after the show pick the images I want to use.
Any tips appreciated.

If you wanna do that, you could just create a simple script that runs in a for loop, and creates the name of the file with a timestamp... Can't do it at the mo, as gotta rush off take LO to nursery then work :(

the telnet commands area not working for me (vix 2.4b143):

grab -d -p /tmp/grab1.png
AiO Screengrabber 8.3.0

Detected STB: Brcm7335
Grabbing 32bit Framebuffer ...

... Framebuffer-Size: 1280 x 720

even the simple grab command with no option is doing the job:
grab
AiO Screengrabber 8.3.0

Detected STB: Brcm7335
Grabbing 32bit Framebuffer ...
640
... Framebuffer-Size: 1280 x 720

I'm also running Vix 2.4.143 but had no problems grabbing from my duo. Note that this is dvb-t with mpeg2... would that make it more likely to succeed.

Code:
root@vuduo:~# grab -o -p /tmp/grab1.png

root@vuduo:~# grab -d -p /tmp/grab4.png

Note the BER and non-ideal SNR in these grabs. There is a problem with the ABC transmitter! not the duo.

The only time i get segmentation faults when using this method is when trying to grab a screenshot of certain HD channels, otherwise it always works flawlessly for me.

so here my results

Code:
[COLOR="#0000FF"]if using [B]-v[/B] option everything goes fine:[/COLOR]
grab -v -p /tmp/grab2.png
AiO Screengrabber 8.3.0

Detected STB: Brcm7335
Grabbing Video ...
... converting Video from YUV to RGB color space
... Video-Size: 1920 x 1080
Saving 24 bit /tmp/grab2.png ...
... Done !

[COLOR="#0000FF"]the some with [B]-o[/B][/COLOR]
grab -o -p /tmp/grab2.png
AiO Screengrabber 8.3.0

Detected STB: Brcm7335
Grabbing 32bit Framebuffer ...
640
... Framebuffer-Size: 1280 x 720
Saving 32 bit /tmp/grab2.png ...
... Done !

[COLOR="#FF0000"]but the [B]-d[/B] fails[/COLOR]
grab -d -p /tmp/grab4.png
AiO Screengrabber 8.3.0

Detected STB: Brcm7335
Grabbing 32bit Framebuffer ...
640
... Framebuffer-Size: 1280 x 720
Grabbing Video ...
Segmentation fault

but the -o option saves a 5kb png file that does contain not the OSD... just a grey frame.

EDIT: succeeded in the -o option
