ive been running vix2.1 since i received my receiver. last week i created my first Duo image from openPLi source, and flashed that onto the receiver just to see if it worked (it did, yay) then today i flashed to vix 2.3 after updating the drivers as directed

all i have running is the bare image, NOTHING has been configured or installed, and man, its running slow for me.

i press channel up, nothing happens for a second, then the vix spinny fires up for a few seconds, it changes channel, pauses for about 3 seconds with the sound still going, then carries on as normal, every channel change takes around 7-8 seconds, and this is without installing any cams etc

now that ive updated drivers though, can i go back to 2.1, or am i now stuck with this? ideally id like to go back to 2.1, then restore the backup i created on my hdd

by drivers you mean the bootloader. this bootloader does allow vix 2.3 and all previous versions of vix to be loaded so yes you can go back to vix 2.1

as posted,...yes you should be able to reinstate 2.1

Yes. The bootloader update on vu duo osd not like the et9000 bootloader update, which changes the root file system... You should even be able to downgrade straight back to your backup image :)

oh, by the way, congrates on the image, please post a few comments, as in, ok it works, but a bit more info would be nice

on the one i compiled? ive been trying to compile for broadcom for AAAAAAAgesssssss, and always hit brick walls. the stuff i was normally compiling went stale for a few months, so i worked away quietly, fixing each error as it appeared (hundreds of them in total lol) untill in the end, my build environment was stable enough and had everything for the NXP stuff i was doing, and broadcom to both work

i first made just a standard openPLi image for the Duo, flashed it, and had some problems with the remote, made some changes, recompiled and it was all fine. i then added some plugins that i wrote into the code, and recompiled again, flashed, and had a working image, with my plugins as default

ive since also done the same with a DM800 image

ive ordered a new PC that will be dedicated to doing this, as the broadcom compiling takes a LOT longer than the NXP stuff and my poor old laptop is struggling lol

anyway, back to my duo, ive looked to restore from my backup, but its not showing, so i think ill have to flash back to 2.1 first

What you flashed 2.3 did you restore a backup of settings from 2.1? Or did you setup from fresh?

Next time enable logs and post the logs please.

i setup completley from fresh m8. flashed the new boot loader then flashed 2.3, i have no option to restore my 2.1 backup that i created in the backup / restore menu, it doesnt see it on my hdd

if all you did was load the new bootloader onto the Duo then not to worry as the bootloader is backwards compatible with all images old and new as all it does is allow the box to load images larger than the base 64MB size limit. if you updated with the new set beta drivers then just load the last known safe drivers over top of the older ones and reboot. either way none of those will prevent you from using a older image of your choice.

do you mean backup settings or a full backup image ? if it's the settings then you do not want to use them as so much has changed in 2.3 those settings will now cause problems, if it's the image just copy it to a USB stick and flash as you normally would.

ahh yeh cool, ive just FTP'd into my receivers hdd and can see that its created an nfi and usb folder structure to restore from. ill flash my backup from usb :)

am i right in thinking that this backup will also contain all of my previously installed cam settings and plugins etc? so i just flash and go?

if you used the ViX image manager then yes it's a 1 to 1 backup of your setup. if you used another form of backup manager ( as going by the .nfi file ) i cant be sure.

yes it was made using the vix menu backup manager thingy

im just flashing it via usb now

all beck to normal now :) it was 2.0 i was using before, not 2.1, but now running a lot faster for me, wierd?

Nice to know that the downgrade path remains and I can still go back (to Vix 2.2.110) if necessary. Currently using Vix 2.3.107 with no slow downs.

boggles the mind as to how a vix image can be improved and then the new image comes out and you are simply stumped at its brilliance. I just update by default these days as I know there will be lots of new treats in store. Happy times. By the way the new Vix night-time skin is beyond good
