I'm just wondering if I can get audio out of the USB 2.0/3.0 sockets?? I know there is a TOSLINK, which I am already using.
I'm just thinking of an alternative.

If you had a debug log or a messages file from when you plugged in your audio device to USB, the devs could presumably see if there is a driver etc. Can you run an lsusb command to see what the device identifies itself as. What is the make/model of the device you are trying to use?

I have pretty generic USB sound cards - one is a Creative Labs 2ch, the other a Chinese 5.1. I just wondered in principle if one would work?
I'll bring a USB sound card from UK to France next time and try.

If I plug one it my Xtren et8000 it is recognized as a USB Audio device (but that just means there is an entry in a usb device list somewhere) but there is no driver for it.

I think that's where the issue will be. You need a driver and enigma needs to be able to identify and use the device as an audio sink.
