[VU+ Solo2] Apollo 090 to 118 problems

I have just tried to update, via couch flash, fron 090 to 118. I restored my settings from 090, but my cfg files were not restored and my channel list was corrupted. So I went back to 090, but again the cfg files were still missing. I had to put them back in manualy, although the channel list was ok.

Should I be able to update from 090 to 118 in that way? or should I have flashed without doing a settings restore?

Couch flash and update are two diiferent things.

You can perform an online update. This does not affect any channel settings or config files unles you had installed them from plugins menu and they have also changed.
You can downlaod a new image in Image Manager, flash it and after reboot optionally restore settings/plugins. (First part of this process is couch flashing)
You can flash a new image by USB and and after reboot optionally restore settings/plugins.

Just to clarify, it was a couch flash I did via Image manager, and after reboot did a restore settings/plugins. And that's when I discovered that some files were missing. Any Ideas why? Would I be better doing an software update? Or a USB flash without settings restore?

But are you setting bckup options correctly so that the config files you want are actually backed up?
Backup, menu, select folders/files for backup.

Have a look at the file called "settings" located in /etc/enigma2/ It lists the files/locations that are backed up. Only those would be restored during a settings restore. You can manually add folders/files when making a backup. Just press "Menu"

You can always interrogate the backup file to double check. I find 7zip a good package.

There are differnces of opinion as to best practice.

Can someone confirm please. If, for example, I go to etc/tuxbox/config and config is ticked, do I have to tick all the entries in that file as well, or is just having config ticked enough?

No need to tick the files of its containing directory is selected.
However, the directory you mention is backed up by default. No need to add it.
