My question is, how come I cannot update my software online to apollo... without losing my settings

If you are on one of the previous images ( zeus or helios ), you will have to reflash the receiver to Apollo as a online update is not possible from these builds. You can however make a settings backup and restore than once Apollo has been flashed (but not from OpenViX 3.0 or lower).

Installed apollo... trying to restore from back up, it is telling me that feed is offline

You need to check that your network is installed and connected to the internet... (this allows plugins, skins and picons previously installed to be re-downloaded from the feeds).

Alternatively, restore settings only and it will not need to check the feeds. Then once the settings are restored and you've re-booted you should have your network properly installed. Then you can restore a second time (settings won't have changed) and on this second restore you can elect to restore plugins (which will come via the feeds online unless they truly are offline!)

cheers

atm the feeds have been set to unstable because of issues with build 002. If you flashed build 001 and want to restore, you need to set 'allow unstable updates'.

My Duo2 will not update from 001 to 002 it says 374 packages to update it goes through the update process then remains in standby when i power up it is still at 001 with an update available Thanks for an help

And how to do it using wi fi access, as far as I know, freshly installed image have no Vu + dongle drivers?

When there is no connection to the Internet is a "restore settings" feature does not work!

A internet connection is not required to restore settings, it's when plugins need to be restored where a internet connection is required as it needs to download the plugins again from the feeds.

But first need to download Wifi dongle drivers using a USB flash drive? Thanks.

Yes, without internet connection 'restore settings' works fine.
But obviously no plugins can be downloaded without internet.

Yes Wifi dongles are a bit of a 'catch-22':(

But as the other posts indicate, you can restore all settings (but not drivers, plugins etc) without an internet connection.

However, you do require an internet connection to download any additional drivers and plugins etc. My solution is to use a wired internet connection to the stb... this doesn't need any additional drivers.

Your suggestion to download the drivers to a USB flash drive (using your PC/laptop?) would require you to find the appropriate driver package and dependencies on the internet... I have not tried this approach and cannot help you with it (sorry). If you succeeded in obtaining the files, then you would need to transfer/install them onto your stb which can be done fairly readily.

I believe the best approach is to use wired internet but this is not always very convenient.
