i tried to change the bootlogo in /usr/share. but after that had no effect i found that in /etc/enigma2 there is another set of logos which obviously are the ones used by the image. why are there 2 sets?
it doesn't hurt, but it's confusing. :-)

Is that the vix cave logo you changed?

i changed the original image logo by installing one from the feed. now, i'm trying to change this one manually by replacing the bootlogo.mvi. but changing the one in /usr/share has no effect and changing the one in /etc/enigma2 has no effect either, as i just found out.
this is really strange.

i finally made it: i had to change the backdrop.mvi in /etc/enigma2. so, 2 questions:
- why are there 2 sets of logos: in /usr/share and /etc/enigma2?
- what's the difference between bootlogo.mvi and backdrop.mvi?
thanks.

User file & system file. If the userfile doesn't exist, the system file is used.
backdrop.mvi & bootlogo.mvi are displayed together, usually used for a logo.

still not sure why you need 2 mvis for the boot logo and why only changing the bootlogo.mvi has no effect.

A proper bootlogo set consists of something like 5 different images for different screens within the image, although some only release a single bootlogo.mvi file.

In ViX we have the master (default) bootlogo set, and when you install another pack from the feeds it does not overwrite this master set but places the new (user) set into a different directory. if you choose to uninstall the user set the image again defaults back to the master set as these ones were not overwritten by the user set when it was installed / removed.

ah, i think i figured it out... there are 3 mvi that are displayed sequentially during the startup of the box:
- first bootlogo.mvi
- second bootlogo_wait.mvi
- third backdrop.mvi
and when bootlogo_wait and backdrop are missing, then bootlogo.mvi continues to be displayed during the later phases of startup as well. I guess this was nice when startup of the box took 2 minutes. But nowadays bootlogo.mvi is good enough.
thanks for the help.
