Whats the best way to update to the latest build without losing any settings or channel info if you are already running 2.3?

backup the settings using the backup manager to a usb stick or hdd, then load the bootloader and then image. note the settings will be restored but any plugins will have to be added manually.

for ET9x00 both ways are ok either via online update or via fresh flash

if fresh flash then follow pheonix advice above

I have already tried via online but my box still keeps flashing to say more updates, I have updated at least 3/4 times

Login via telnet into ur box and run these commands in this order

opkg remove kernel-module-rtl8192cu --force-depends

opkg upgrade

shutdown -r now

Last command will make thr box reboot, when it cones back on hopefully all should be ok

I just flashed using USB and all is ok now.

no need to do this in 161, it will do it for you
