[GiGaBlue QUAD] can't flash Box with Apollo Image 032

Hi help please,
I spotted I was having an issue with the EPG data not downloading on my Gigablue Quad HD a couple of days ago. I discovered the thread regarding the Apollo 032 build needing a re-flash and figured that this was the likely cause of my problem. I downloaded the image and flashed the box (I have done this before with previous images in the past so I like to think I know what I am doing). After all the flashing activity had ceased and the warning triangle had disappeared the box just hung (I left it for about 30 mins but nothing happened other that the Gigablue icon being displayed on the small screen on the box and the standard “for all your support needs” displayed on the TV). I tried the re-flash several times with several pen drives and several different downloads of the image, also I tried with the network connected, the network not connected the dish connected, the dish not connected, power disconnected for 10 mins but exactly the same problem every time. At this Point I was worried I had bricked the box so I then started a long drawn out process of trying successively older images 030,029,028,026,025 (I’m nothing if not persistent),024,023 …. success, for some reason Apollo image 023 re-flashed, the box rebooted and I now at least have a semi working system. The problem I am now having is that I am getting the “feeds not available message” so I am unable to fully restore a backup of my saved settings and more importantly I am stuck with image 023 and still no EPG download. I have tried to re-flash 032 again with the same problem as described above, but at least good old reliable 023 restores every time. Can any of you tech geniuses out there assist me please.

i notice in the downloads there is a new bootloader for the gigablue,is that your box if so may need bootloader flashed first and box reboots then do image.

That could explain why an older image works while all the later ones don’t. I will check it out.

Yes you need the new bootloader to flash 025 onwards
But just a word of warning before you do, check out this thread

Some of us Quad owners have had a problem with reboots while recording, not saying that it is the new bootloader, but the problem seems to have happened since the upgrade and even going back to previous builds that did work are still not working

It's done now so no going back, but thanks for the heads up at least if it does that I will know what it is even if there is nothing I can do about it.

That did the job, it was a bit twitchy for a while, especially when I didn't realise that I needed to flash a new image straight away, really thought I had bricked it for about 10 mins , image 032 installed, update done, so technically Apollo 033 installed.

I still have my original problem though with the EPG data not updating, It starts the downloader, then loads data at the end, it just misses out the it in the middle where it counts to 900 several times I will have a read of a few posts for inspiration.

What EPG sources are you using?
I've flashed a Quad probably 10+ times in the last week, with various images & bootloaders.
None have an issue with EPG or any USB sticks.

what epg are you using as i found my old faithful xmltv not cutting mustard and reverted to cross epg which now gives me hopefully 7 day epg.

I am only using the bog standard Cross EPG which I have found to be great until this happed a few days ago. I have sorted this problem now, I uninstalled the crossepg plugin and the autobouquets plugin and the reinstalled both of them, reconfigured the autobouquets downloader and saved the setting and that was it the crossepg now just works again. haven't a clue why it went wrong in the first place but the main thing is it is fixed and I have learnt some stuff along the way. Thanks for all your help.

Hi Guys,

The EPG problem is back again (the one that started all this in the first place) , I just navigated to next Thursday to set a recording and the EPG data mostly stops on Tuesday (there are a few channels with EPG information past this point but the vast majority are empty) I have tried to initiate a download both by pressing blue & then selecting Cross EPG downloader & by pressing menu, Plugins & cross EPG downloader (which I guess are just 2 different ways of accessing the same thing) and it just does the same thing displays the message starting downloader (for about 30 seconds) then displays Loading data. It misses the bit out in the middle where it actually downloads anything, you know the 900 of this the umpteen megabytes of that etc. I have de-installed cross epg and reinstalled just like I did last time but still not working. Just an extra snippet of information I am now on image Apollo build 037, I did another update just to see if it helped :-(

Any Ideas anyone?


PS Richardinspain, if you see this, it looks like you are correct regarding the recording problem now I have upgraded my bootloader, they are very glitchy, and keep freezing. Anyway, one thing at once , but Hope it gets fixed soon.

I had an issue where cross did not update. Turned out that Tuner D was not getting a signal. Traced it back to a pinched cable point. Replaced it and all worked again. Don't understand why it didn't use the other working tuners though.
Anyway, test your tuners one by one. Disable all except A, test cross, then B etc. Might help. Not sure if you should gui restart on each.

You are a genius, that was it, strangely it looks like the same tuner as yours I disabled tuner D and it worked straight away. Tuner D is motorised and I have noticed it has been intermittent of late getting a lock.

I will check the cable and try it enabled again. as you say I don't understand why it wasn't using 1 of the other 3 tuners that are just connected to a fixed dish and work without any problems.

As far as I know ABM and Cross EPG (0.8.1) have been modified so that they look towards the last tuner in the list as they are most likely to be free and therefore not risk interuting viewing.

Swap 3 with 4 for now? If 3 is fixed Sat.

I have just disable Tuner D (set to not configured) for now and it works fine, ordered 50m of Cable from a well known online store, so nice little job for Sunday.
