hey guys

I have 3 boxes vu duo and solo and a gigablue 800 se.

obviously the duo is the MAIN box with the other 2 in bedrooms.

What i am trying to achieve is;

Any recording made on duo I want to be able to view them on either the solo or gigablue.

What I have have managed;

To network mount hdd on gigablue (havent tried solo yet doesnt really get used) but i cant seem to find any way of accessing it after mounting it

Am i missing something out?

cheers

When you go into filelist, press yellow for location & a list of your mounted drives will be available.

what i get is media/usb and media/net but if i go into media/net theres nothing there

I just mounted media/hdd

Am i supposed to only mount a folder on the hdd

It doesn't sound like they are actually mounted so.
Have you installed any network services like samba from Menu -> Setup -> System -> Network?

You would need to install samba server on the server box & client on any client boxes.
Reboot, set up mounts again & all should be fine.

right That where I went wrong Ive got samba on server box but not on client I'll give this a try

Also

Is there a Samba Server AND a Samba client or do u mean am suppose to install samba on server box and client box?

as far as I remember, when you enter the samba menu for the first time, it now asks you if you want to install server or client.

Right Ill give that a go tomorrow when feeds are back on will need to reinstall samba because I messed about with it a while back trying to suss things out lol.

I also noticed samba was disabled on server box and client but I'll reinstall them and start from stratch.

Cheers for your help mate

I've managed to do this without messing with samba. All I did was install NFS (from the network menu) on all my boxes, and then setup the shares from the recorded movie list setup menu. To get to this menu press the [=R] button on the remote, then press [menu]. From this menu select Network Mounts... then Mount Manager then Add new network mount point:

Mount using: fstab
Active: enable
Local share name: WhateverNameYouWant
Mount type: NFS Share
Server IP: IPAddressOfTheRemoteBoxYouWantToReadFrom (eg 192.168.0.10)
Server share: media/hdd
Use as HDD replacement: No
Mount options: rw,nolock,tcp

This assumes that you've already mounted the hdd on your remote boxes as media/hdd. Check Menu / Setup / VIX / Mount Manager on the remote box.

Alternatively you can get these mount details automatically by selecting Network Browser instead of Mount Manager above and then selecting the correct box from the list of devices that are found (it can take a bit of time to find all the devices).

To browse movies on the remote box press the Yellow (Locations) button from the recorded movie menu ([=R] button on the remote), select the remote box then navigate to the movie folder. From here you can setup a bookmark so you can automatically navigate to that folder in future. Just press the menu button and select Add Bookmark.

And only in post # 10 we see which image is being used........
Please please please: provide all the info you have and now it turns out to be ViX this thread should have been in the ViX-section :rolleyes:

Good point. I've assumed the OP was using a VIX image. But perhaps he isn't. As you say, Rob, providing this info up front would avoid people making such assumptions.
