Network transfer speed very slow - why?

so....i swapped by Duo for a Solo2 for the SOLE reason of gigabit lan.........

i have 1 pc upstairs connected direct to the router. its connected at 1gb.
i have 1 pc downstairs connected via a switch, to the router. Its connected at 1gb.

i connect the solo2 to the same switch, test a file transfer - and its going superslow, 6-10mb/s

i think, maybe its the cable - i swap it for the cable plugged into the downstairs pc = same result.

why is it doing this? faulty box? is there any way i can check the box to see what speed its connected to the network at? its as if its connected at 100mbps and not 1000.....
please help.

(network test is all green)

on the port - the yellow light and green lights are blinking......which suggests its not connecting at 1gbps? (green light should be static??)

well, i dont know how to read code, but it says speed 1000mb/s, and duplex full....so....that means the box IS connected at 1gbps? if so why is it transferring super slow? when transferring files from my vu+ duo, it would transfer at the full 100mbps (normally would stick around 11mb/s)

Well, at least the NIC of the box is indeed in GBlan mode.

For that you have to lok at other components in the line.

BTW: How do you actually measure the speed? Not via a PC I hope?

well im trying to transfer files from the box to a pc via the network, via an ftp client, like i've always done (flashfxp).
with the vu+ duo it would always transfer at the maximum speed the connection allowed, 100mbps - 11mb/s

its not even achieving that with this solo2.

i just tested the speed of transfer, from my PC upstairs which is connected directly to the router, to the PC downstairs connected via a switch to the router,
with a 500mb file, using LAN speed test (lite), write speed: 822mbps. Read speed: 874mbps.

which is what youd expect.

this is absolutely killing me, its like ive upgraded and gone backwards instead.

OKAY - update - i plugged the box directly into the router, not through the switch, and hey presto - transfer speed of 56mb/s.

Okay.........so the question is, what is the problem when its connected to the network via a switch?
and why does the switch work fine for transferring when its from the PC?

Anyway it shows how difficult it is to to proper testing for the box.

Hi,
there seems to be CRC problems with certain switches which means a lot of packets have CRC errors so the speed drops. With

ifconfig

in telnet you see a statistic of the errors. I would say use your switch again and look for errors.
