My head is spinning after reading all this Unicable LNB, legacy stuff. Why is life not simple.
I will outline my position. I have screwed up my VU+ Solo2, put 24v where 12v should have gone
So am in the market for a new receiver. Considered the Zgemma HS7 setup for Freesat as that is all I ever used to watch on the VU.
Now I would like to be able to record more than the 2 channels I could before. I had very few programme clashes but at times could have done with being able to record 2, maybe3 and watch another. So I got caught up in this Unicable game. I should point out I have twin cables feeding the receiver position. So would I need a FBC receiver, thinking VU+ Uno 4K SE and Unicable or a mixture or not? Told you I was numpty, sorry if I cannot see the wood for the trees.

I have read that whole thread, twice at least. I think the idea of drawings is an excellent idea. I was hoping it would show my position in having available 2 feeds from the dish for any receiver to use. Still not sure if that renders the Unicable thingy unneccessary. So in essence if I buy a twin tuner receiver abd use 2 feeds I am in the position I was before I destroyed my VU+ Solo2
Namely able to watch/record at least 2 channels. Now if I use a Unicable LNB I only need to use one feed and a single tuner receiver to be able to watch/record more channels.

The tuners and their access to signal will determine the number of transponders (therefore channels) that you can receive. A single tuner receiver will be restricted to one transponder. This is whether you have unicable or universal LNB.

Unicable (one cable) means you can have several "feeds" down one cable. For arguments sake, instead of having an Octo LNB with 8 wires, you can just have one wire and use splitters as and when required.

FBC tuner is 8 tuner on one card. Two of the tuners have physical connection points. All eight tuners (on one card) can share signal from one/two of the inputs. For all 8 tuners to be independent, you need a unicable LNB with at least 8 SCR bands. Unless you get a really old one, most will have 24.

Yes, you need an FBC tuner and unicable device if you want to avoid the channel restrictions.

As an aside, on Terrestrial (i.e aerial, not dish), the HD versions of the 5 main channels are all on one multiplex. You can record all 5 channels with just one tuner.

Right so if I bought the VU+Uno 4K SE and used the 2 feeds I have I can access 8 transponders? Hope I am right. And regards the terrestrial signal here it is dire. So many trees in close proximity that in summer there is no signal worth talking about even with a massive outdoor aerial.

Yes, but you only need one physical wire from the unicable LNB. The signal can be split into two (or more) with a cheap splitter before it gets to your box .

If you already have two cables going to your LNB and you get a unicable LNB with a legacy output then connect one cable to the unicable output and one cable to the legacy output. A legacy output is NOT required but it could be useful as a backup if initially you cannot the unicable configured. A legacy output is the same type of output as you have on your existing LNB.

By saying " use the 2 feeds I have", I am presuming you are saying use the existing LNB and two signal wires. If you were to do that, you can only assign two tuners. These two tuners will be independent, the other 6 will work in internal loop through mode similar to the solo2 does with one wire in tuner B. For a universal LNB, (each port is in essence an individual LNB) it can be in either High, Low, Vertical or Horizontal mode. By using the existing universal LNB, you will have some restrictions. Yes you can record 8 transponders, but they can be only on the two planes/quadrants that the LNB are in. I have got to over 30 channels, but there is a issue in E2 where it does not readily tell you what is not available. You have to activate a channel for it to fail, then it greys out.

If you want independent 8 tuners, you have to change to a unicable LNB. There is no need to get a legacy output just so that you can use the other wire. Use one and forget the other. Make the external end of the unused wire water tight and tie it under the dish arm. Label both wires in the house. No doubt you will need to disconnect the wires at some time and will forget which wire is used and which is just dangling.
