VU+ duo 4k
TM2300 60cm dish
Location: Exeter, Devon, UK

I followed all the procedures to install a motorised dish.
I get a good signal from 0.8W
I get a good signal from 28.2E

I get nothing from 19.2 or 13.0
I guess its not tracking the arc...but don't know what to adjust?

Also...I've got a few channels from 0.8 AND 28,2 in EPG, but dish does not move when selecting channels.
I have to use positioner setup goto X function to select the satellite

and finally....goto 0 drives motor to 0, but goto 28.2 drives motor to 35 ????

If you live on the earth's access and the motor would move 28 degrees. But you live on the planet surface I.e.nearer the satellite so the angle the motor has to move is greater.

No...Actually I don't.....The reply helps me not.
Anyone else with a helpful reply??

Well....unless googlemaps lies about my lat / long....I don't think so.
But I know nothing...that's why I'm reaching out for assistance.
I'm not completely stupid, but I'm not a professional dish installer
Thanks for your suggestion anyway :-)

maybe post your settings here.Type off rotor ? How did you align the dish ?

Lets see some pictures from the side of the motor.

So procedure for setting up motor.
  1. A wall bracket just will not do. Should be T and K's or similar. Whatever you use it must be adjustable to get vertical.
  2. The mast/pole must plumb/vertical. Check for vertical with a piece of string with a weight on the end. It must be perfectly vertical before trying to start the next steps.
  3. Motor elevation angle must be 39.28º (for Exeter).
  4. Motor body must point exactly towards due south.
  5. Move the motor to 0.
  6. With motor moved to 0 make sure the dish also points exactly to due south. Tighten dish fully onto motor stub and do not adjust here again.
  7. Add coordinates in the box for Exeter (50.72º N, 3.52º W) and USALS.
  8. 5º W is your southern satellite so you need to adjust to that. Use the positioner to send the motor to 5º W. The motor should move to about 1º to the west.
  9. In positioner setup choose a transponder from 5º W.
  10. Now adjust. You adjust by moving the motor left/right on the vertical pole, and the dish elevation at the dish bracket.
  11. Adjust as above. Do not adjust the dish on the motor stub, or motor elevation.

@catech - great tips there from @Huevos. I have a motorised setup also. My longitude is 6W, so I also use 5W for initial alignment. The important thing is to ensure the dish is mounted is mounted exactly central on the motor stub and when the motor is at zero the dish should be pointing exactly south. There is no satellite at your exact south, so the motor will have to turn slightly to the right (west) to point at 5W. When you send the motor to point at 28.2, the reason it is showing 35-40 is because the satellite is at a bearing of 141 degrees from your location, so it has to move from 180 (your south) to 141 which is 39 degrees. The scale on the motor body shows the relative azimuth the motor needs to turn to point at the satellite. It's not terribly accurate either, so don't worry about the precise reading if the satellite is coming in well! If you lived in Moldova, the 28.2 satellites would be due south and your motor reading would be zero.

Be careful with the motor elevation setting - there may be two scales on the motor body. Your latitude is almost 51N, therefore the motor elevation will be 90 minus 51 which is 39. The scale(s) on the motor may allow for latitude or elevation, so check.

Thanks for all the tips....Will start work on this over the weekend

You should post a few more pics and use a spirit level to make sure everything is plumb. use of string is not accurate enough.

When you use a motorised dish you should download a good motorised settings file? like catseye, morpheus, etc. Is it a sky dish and 60cm is small. You dont say make of lnb.

before you start post a few pics of what you have done and do a sideways one of lnb, are you aware you have to adjust focal length of lnb, ie move in and out. This last bit is important with USALS you no longer have to use your reference sat to set up rig. in your case I would use 0.8w, 2 channels with good signal are fta, I'll tell you later and one is H other V get signal good on both, thats where tuning lnb comes in. You can have a dish pointing at 28e and if focal is wrong you will get no itv!!

The manual should show you the elevation/latitude for dish and motor.

I use a vu+ duo 2 with darkmotor and black ultra, triax 1.1cm dish. dishpointer com using an motor gives a dfferent reading from those above dish/motor setup but can be accurate.

I take it its all new gear and not secondhand? And any trees, buildngs, overhead cables in the way?
