Hi there,
Installed a replacement drive away from the WD10EADS to stop the horrible recording it was producing.
Replaced it with a samsung 103, so far so good.
But i haven't installed any picons yet, but have a flash drive and was going to put things like EPG, PICONS and timeshift on that drive.

But how do i set the system up to do this?

All i have done is set the internal HDD as HDD and initilized it, i have done nothing like this to the USB flash drive.

can anyone give me a walk through on what to do here with this idea.

I basically only want to use the dirve for recordings, so i get the best quality and no stuttering out of it.
Many thanks!
Stuart

you need to mount the usb drive in device manager to media/usb once you have done that, reboot the system and if you go back into device manager just check that the usb is mounted correctly.
to install picons you could stick the stick in your computer and just copy the picons to /picon on the root of the usb.

which epg are you going to use, CrossEPG or RyVIX?

if you use CrossEPG you need to go into Menu/Setup/Vix/Settings and make sure "Choose EPG Location - USB Stick". once you have done that you then need to go back to Menu/Setup/VIX/CrossEPG/Configure and then "Storage Device - USB Stick" and now you can configure CrossEPG and pick the source

If you use RyVIX just do Menu/Setup/Vix/Settings and make sure "Choose EPG Location - USB Stick". and then from the RyVIX Menu you can chose the source and do a manual download and thats the epg done

i dont need to do anything like initilise the usb stick do i? Just simply mount it?
Can i access the USB stick via ftp/window network once mounted?

No u just need to mount it as media/usb and you can access it via an ftp program and i think you can network mount it as i can see my internal hdd on my windows 7 laptop

Is Crossepg working ?

I've set it up to use usb as described and selected 28.2E in the openTV providers but when I select download a window pops up for a fraction of a second and nothing is downloaded.

Is it possible to re-install Crossepg v0.6.1 in case it's corrupted and if so where can I find the correct version for Vix 2.0.

Also, is it necessary to re-format the usb flash drive in the Vu+ Duo first or is it okay as FAT32. I can see the media/usb via ftp.

Before you uninstal, do a full rescan and than try to download.
Can you also post your CE configuration.
