Skinning concept

As i said look into e2embyclient plugin. It also display backdrop with some elements on top that have some half transparent background...

yes, this looks very similar to my tmdb plugin. i will review the code. thanks.
well, one major difference migth be that i'm using a panel with border and keys instead of a full screen without anything else. this might also add rendering overhead.

By the way there is already a tmdb plugin in vix....What is the difference in yours?

i dont know. at a first glance it doesnt have a backdrop... but i havent looked in detail.
btw. mine is not intended to compete with any other tmdb plugin. i just wanted to keep it when moving from dreamos to openvix because i spent a lot of effort developing it.

this screenshot shows the version without haze layer... which performs "ok" :-)
as the backdrop is dark, the list text can be read well.

let me ask a generic question about dm900 gui performance:
when i started out with openvix i used an old mips vu zero. the ported tmdb plugin (without haze) worked fine, so did the plutotv-vix plugin.
when i switched to dm900 scrolling the tmdb movie list as well as the plutotv-vix vod movie list feels stiffer/slower than on vu zero.
could it be that the graphics performance on dm900 which is much faster can't be fully exploited?

Yes ui on dm9x0 boxes is slower since there is not hardware acceleration and alphablending. That is due to not know how DMM did it in DreamOS (since closed source). So yes expect dm900 to be slower in case of scrolling lists with many graphics...

well, if thats true, then it means to me that dm900 is not usable for open... i dont want to have to deal with such deficiencies. so, i probaby have to buy a vu+... i had already considered buying a vu+ duo 4k se, once it's available again.

just saw by accident that openatv has new drivers that are supposed to improve gui accelleration performance to be equal to dreamos.
are you guys planning on including them in openvix as well?

OpenViX and OpenATV are built from the same core so use the same drivers. I don't see any drivers added at any point in the last 6 months. But anyway, as DMM is closed source how would anyone know how to interface the new features. How would we even know they exist, let alone how to use them.

i tested the 002 build... gui performance seems to be slightly better, but not enough to make my tmdb plugin with the haze layer usable. it works fine without the haze layer, but the haze layer seems to be too much.
anyway... let's stop here... i think there is nothing that could be done to make this perform well without hw accelleration.

Well you can skin it in a way where no hardware acceleration is needed...

Also why dont you post your plugin here so to be able to try it on my DM920....I dont think it cant be made in the way UI to not struggle

here is the plugin + skin addon (/etc/enigma2/skin_.... xml) for e2-darkos skin.
the plugin currently only supports e2-darkos. the haze is still a little dark, but this can be adjusted later. if you would like to offer changes, here's the git link:
hope, it runs on your dm920. as the haze layer is active plugin startup takes a while...

@2stein

Here is modification of your code so to not need to do the haze in the skin

In this way it can work on all distros without to worry about the performance.

The amount of the dim you can put in your plugin config.

But you must work more on the threading and list scrolling since now it download and render images immediately which make it slow.

P.S. also skinning is done wrong. You should define a screen skin embedded and then in any particular skin this to be able to be overwritten. In this way with in code xmls for the skin is too complex and not flexible.
