want to upgrade from vix 2.1 to 2.3 as want to put an extra avermedia volar hx usb tv stick in it
have got a hdd installed in it
my epg and picons go on the usb stick at the back
want to keep my settings as they are
im using cccam and mgcamd in it
got my nas drive init in it as well so can play movies for it onto my duo
i understand i have to update the bootloader on it as well by usb
how do i check if my bootlaoder is old and i have to change to the new one
if i do install the vix2.3
will i lose all my data on the hdd some recordings on it as if i have to init it again
will i also loose all the other settings as well as my bouquete and xml files
is there any way of preserving them like a backup so that i can recopy them
is there any way of downgrading the image if you dont llike it for some reasons
sorry so many questions in one post
thanks for looking and replying

backup your softcam configuration files and your bouquets etc, but it is not recommended that you backup any other settings as so much has changed between 2.1 and 2.3 that it will cause major instabilities on your box.

also as far as the bootloader goes just flash that the same as you would a new image from a usb stick but make sure there is nothing else on the stick at the time. but dont worry about the bootloader too much as it only adds the ability to use images larger than 64MB in size and all images old and new are fully compatible wit it.

to backup your bouquet including the satellites.xml use dreamboxedit. as for your softcam configuration files FTP into the box where they live and copy them to your PC etc.

what about the hdd which has got recorded prog on it will it be afftected
do i have to init it again i mean the hdd
and the usb stick which has got the epg and picons on it
will i have to do that again or will they not be afftected
thanks

They should be fine, no need to re-init them.
