there are also several other folders which make it hang when i browse...bin, dev an several others

re flash the unit with a new image try ViX 2.3 then see if the problem is still there or not.

well ive installed 2.3 and its exactly the same? totally bizarre, im baffled! 100% not a pc issue, have tried several laptops, several ftp methods, all of which work great with another box.
any help appreciated, not sure what to try next

ok i will try that next time i have access to the box(only at weekends) it defo hangs when i type
root@vuduo:/etc# ls -l

sorry to revive this but ive still not solved this - got the latest vix image on and its still the same - when i type ls -l /etc , it just hangs.
im thinking this could now be weird hardware issue. i just cannot access certain folders without it hanging no matter what program or method i use.
any ideas welcome . thanks

Login with putty in telnet mode does not require a password.
Login in ssh mode requires a password. I tried blank, "dreambox", "password", "root". No luck. Anyone knows what it should be?

nobody any ideas what this could be? could it be the router somehow blocking access? well & truly stuck! help greatly appreciated

drwxr-xr-x 34 root root 0 Nov 19 16:12 /etc
indicates that 34 directories have been created in /etc, but /etc contains 0 bytes of regular files, which is rather unusual.
It looks like the reflash did not write correctly.
Have you tried to reflash the bootloader first?
Or tried a different USB key.

yes ive tried different sticks, done the bootloader etc. ive done 2 other boxes just fine, they work great.
its just this one - tried 3 times all with different usb sticks, a different laptop to login etc
the only constants are the box itself and the router. but i cannot see how the router could possibly cause it.
baffled
