Hi all,

My parents vu duo is stuck on the starting screen, having researched the issue it seems like a common issue...

I beileve they have the same build as my one:

VIX: 2.4
kernal 3.1.1
version 2.4
build 213

How can I go about fixing the issue, i read all the other posts talking about flashing the box, however could not find the right firmware and how to place the software on the usb in order to flash the bootloader then the firmware.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Rgds,

where did your parents ( or you ) get the unit from? and how much did you pay for it,

the reason for the questions, is that its unusual for the 2.4 image to be a problem, also there is a new version VIX 3

Not a common issue.
All the info you need to update to latest image here.

Thanks, i bought two vu duo boxes from world of sat.

I have downloaded the firmware and read the guide, will the guide still apply if the vu box is stuck at the starting screen.

Thanks very much for the prompt support guys :)

A reply to the instructions from Monty on how to flash it says the following 3 files will need to be present:

boot_cfe_auto.jffs2
kernel_cfe_auto.bin
root_cfe_auto.jffs2

However, after downloading the files i see the following files:

imageversion
kernel_cfe_auto.bin
reboot.update
root_cfe_auto.jffs2

Do i still follow the same steps as in place all the files under the vuplus > duo directory on the formatted USB?

Once again, thanks very much for the help.

Rgds,

dont worry about what files are or are not present in the image file. just download the 3.0 bootloader file ( cfe file ).

flash this first. then download the very latest ViX 3.0-237 image and flash that in the same way as the bootloader. the whole process should take around 5 minutes.

You already have the latest bootloader.. but it will not do any harm what-so-ever to flash it again..

So.. you need the cfe.. Put it in root of your USB stick..

Flash the bootloader the same way you would flash the image..

Then.. Delete the cfe file from your USB Stick..

Then put the image on root of USB stick..

Then flash the latest Vix 3.0 build 237.. You can get that image ...HERE...

Thanks very much for your advice and peace of mind.

I downloaded the recommended build from the link, I take it that the kernel_cfe_auto.bin file is the bootlader which needs to go on the root of the usb first, then the other 3?

Will this still apply even if the vu vix images is currently always getting stuck on the starting screen?

Thanks.

no.

for god sake dont do that.

This is the bootloader, just extract the file and copy the folder named vuplus and it's contents to the stick, dont add, delete or move any thing at all. just copy the folder vuplus to the stick.

flash the bootloader then flash the image.

If you got the box from WOS you can be sure it's a genuine box so will work perfectly on latest updates.
Do as pheonix suggests, extract the bootloader onto USB as is, update it.
Then do the same with the image.

ok thanks very much for your help.

I will format the usb to fat32, then copy over the bootloader by copying over the vu plus folder from the above download, and then flash the boxx, then delete everything off the usb and place the vuplus folder containing vix v3 from the image provided previously.

I take it there will be relevant promts to indicate that the bootloader and also the image process is finished.

Sorry about the frustration, i am new to this.

Thanks.

Rgds,

yes thats pretty much all you need to do, if every thing goes correctly you will see the various prompts on the receivers display and eventually a message telling you to remove the stick and reboot the receiver.

as for being frustrated dont worry about it, thats what were here for. just follow the instructions and you will be fine.

also make sure that no other USB devices are connected to the receiver while flashing either the image or the bootloader.

Ok thanks for your help guys.

I think i have got it. I will perform the following steps:

1. format the usb to fat32
2. place the contents of the bootloader download ( duo_cfe_3_0_usb.zip) to the root of the usb and flash the bootloader.
3. Once done, delete the bootlaoder data from the usb and place the vix image and flash the vix image.

Sorry about the frustration, just new to this.

Thanks very much.

Rgds,

yes correct

the bootloader file will only take a few seconds

once done, message will apper on led screen

power down

then asdd the new image

Special thanks to everyone for contributions, very much appreciated, sorry about the double post.

Have a nice evening.

Rgds,

Hope all goes well buddy.. If you have any problems.. Just post here and we will do what we can to help..

Hi,

Rgds,

No, no need to format the hdd if it was working before.
