Hello, please can you help. I’ve done loads of reading to try & learn, & got help from the forums.
I believe this is the order to set up my VU+ Duo, but one or two questions. Please can you let me know if I’ve understood the order correctly;

1. Use MOTECK V-BOX II to position satellites
2. Connect MOTECK V-BOX II to VU+ Duo
3. Switch on VU+ Duo, & go through set up menus
4. Switch off Vu+ Duo
5. Install; Vu+Duo bootloader ( duo_cfe_3_0_usb.zip ) using USB, switch on Receiver
6. Switch off Vu+ Duo
7. Install; openvix-3.0.802-vuduo_usb using USB, switch on Receiver
8. Connect to Receiver via pc, & transfer enigma2-plugin-cams-cccam.2.0.11_1.0_mipsel using Filezilla

1. Connect MOTECK V-BOX II to VU+ Duo
2 Switch on VU+ Duo, & go through set up menus
3 set up service searching

the rest can be done later

So, is the 1 to 10 that I wrote down the correct order to do things, and is is all correct or did I miss something.

Start in this order
5,6,7,3,8,

I would add transfer a chanenl list to receiver too.

Have a read of the new box setup guide. Link in my signature

So, I'm installing a bootloader before even turning on the receiver for the first time, is this correct? This means that storing the satellites is the final action. Remember that the receiver cannot move the dish, this is why I will need the v-box connected.

Think of it this way as analogy with a PC

Bootloader = Bios (not always necessary to install). You don't always flash the BIOS.
Vix/Blackhole/PLI etc = Operating System
CCcam/Ondemand etc = Programs
CCcam.cfg = Mandatory config for program called CCcam to access contents storage medium. In this case the card in the receiver. We don't talk about remote file storage on this forum.

If you set it up and then reinstall the bios and operating system, everything will be wiped as you are going over yourself.

For now park your dish at a most used satellite eg 28.2 and then set it up as: Simple,Single,28.2. Worry about your interfacing with the vbox and other sats later. Think of it as your printer.

You'll get there, have patience.

There is no need to flash a bootloader if you have just pruchased a Duo. It will already have latest bootloader.

You only ever have to flash the bootloader if a new one if released after your purchase.

Hi

You can of course move your dish using the vbox with stored satellite positions programed

Thanks abu & all who are helping me, that's been really helpful.
Any suggestions on a reliable v-box. And when the v-box is finally connected, would I being through the VU+ Duo receiver menu to set the sats, or does the v-box have it's own menu which would appear on the tv screen to position all sats. I looked at the Moteck and it said that it has 60 sats stored. This is obviously different to the sats stored on the receiver, I guess.

The choice of V-boxes is pretty limited and of those available, reliability seems to be much of a much. They all need pretty hefty power supples to move larger dish motors and can suffer from humming and buzzing as they get older.

Ultimately, they are pretty "dumb" pieces of kit. Your dish motor has a reed switch that is triggered by a revolving magnet which sends those pulses to the V-box. You store the position of one satellite position in your V-box, then use the V-box remote control to find and save the next satellite position. The V-box simply remembers the number of pulses it took to move the motor from position 1 to position 2 etc.

I have a Moteck which I am still getting to grips with. It is ok, but wins no prizes on the beauty front. The G-box that I sent you a link to from the forum sponser not only looks more pleasing but from what I have read, does a more accurate job of counting the pulses from the motor. I am lucky that a friend has a new one he is sending me for nothing but if I were shopping now, that is what I would go for.

There is no on-screen setup for these V/G-boxes. The dish must be moved via the V-box remote and once you verify each satellite (either with a meter or with a sat receiver) you save that position in the V-box.

Once you have those positions stored in the V-box, you can set up your receiver to call on the V-box for the required satellite.

I asked you before in your other thread but I don't think you answered. What dish is it, what motor is it, and finally, is it a fresh installation at a new location? If it is a new installation, then you will have to correctly set up the dish before you can start scanning for sats. If it is an existing installation that was previously working then that will save you a whole heap of effort.

hey Clabs, thansk for the info. I have a motorised set up with all sats programmed in, and an old echostar receiver (now being changed). I dont know what motor, but it's a 1.2m dish.
I've looked at the g-box, seems just right for me. If I undesratnd correctly, plug g-box into receiver, but where/how do I see when dish is locked on each sat so as to allocate numbers with the g-box remote. Where would this show up. If I'm using the receiver menus, this still wont show when the dish is on each sat.

I have never set up a v/gbox from scratch although I will be having a go when my "new" one arrives so in that respect, we are both on a learning curve :)

You should be able to use the sat finder in the service searching section of the Vu receiver to find a signal, scan it to identify the satellite you have found and then save that position in the V/Gbox.

Are the presets normally correct? If yes, would that mean all you have to do is ensure that postion numbers in setup tally as with the defaults?

i don't think they are if I remember right I had to set mine up manually , but what motor is it or is it a ram
