Last I tested GBQuad (orignal, not +) was with an Oct 8th bootloader & a ViX 054 build.
Recordings a lot better but the more I added, the easier it was to reproduce original rebooting issue.
Getting there, but GB still clutching at straws/trying hard? to fix the issue.
Still seems to only effect some boxes though, as I'd be expecting to see a lot more complaints if happened on all of them.

Yep presuming it's the one I was asked to try last week, with fan disconnected (and metal circle I cut out, taped back in place), I had it recording a minimum of 3 things at once for over 12 hrs, plus watching prerecorded at the same time for 3 hrs of that, not one problem at all.

Tested on both latest ViX and Openmips.

So it's fixed it for me.

As I've cut a hole and mounted a fan, I've gone back to using that, only because I've installed it, seems little point in not having the box running that little bit cooler. Hopefully this will fix it for anyone else too.

I was under strict instructions not to distribute it etc while testing until it had been released hence haven't mentioned it until now. Was asked to test as I could reproduce the reboots 100% of the time.

Hmm, weird it fixed it for me.

Just checked, it was gigablue_bootloader_gbquad_20141008 so I presume it's the same one as you tested.

Not near PC at the moment, but I tested on whatever was the latest publically available ViX last Friday (9th), I don't think it was as high as 054, can check in the morning.

LOL, who asked you to do that?

Yes, same bootloader so.
Haven't tried the newer bootloader mentioned above, but recordings seem to be getting better with newer kernel configs, so hopefully fixed soon.

judge - Stef posted the bootloader for Quad owners experiencing problems to try and suggested they not use their fan solutions.

While not a Quad issue as such, the Quad Plus playback glitching issue seems to have been fixed by memory management config changes in the builds. That coupled with the driver fixes for the LCD have sorted out my remaining problems for the moment. Apparently there are transcoding fixes in the new drivers also, so I'll test that shortly.

With a fan blacked up?
Ojustaboo has gone to extreme lengths to get his box working as it should, can't be considered as a 'normal' released box anymore.

I have had just two or three 1/2 second pixelations since I updated last Friday, and almost everything I watch is prerecorded, so it's now barely noticeable.

LCD still full blast for me, will update in the morning to hopefully fix.

Finally getting there :)

While true, when he asked me to try it, I was on 023 which displayed the (wrong) temp.

Luckily the metal circle I cut out was still in my workshop, so I disconnected the fan, laid the circle on top and made it as near to a normal box as possible.

I then recorded a few things and every time I checked over 15 min, each time the temp was a few degrees hotter, I got bored when it had gone from 59 to 91, maybe I should have waited another 15 odd mine to double check (had places I needed to be), but as it seemed to be going up as quick as before I added the fan, I presumed it was back like it was originally and at that point flashed the new bootloader and a full install of the latest ViX.

It is possible with the fan while unplugged, still fitted to the lid above the heat sink, that it caused the air to move differently hence didn't think it was as hot as before, but if anything, with the tape holding the disc in place, there was less holes for the heat to escape than on a normal box.

Be interesting to know what others who haven't model their boxes find.

Maybe it's fixed for some?

Maybe it depends on other settings for example I don't currently use any cards in mine?

Was on 047. Now on 055, LCD now fixed

Yes, it would seem that GB are finally coming good - fingers crossed! I assume from what you posted that you are leaving the fan in place and running now? It can only be a good thing, keeping the innards cool.

New bootloader fixed reboot issue.

Tested with 8 recordings at sane time and all completed.

I haven't suffered so much from the reboot problem as stuttering / failing when playing back while another recording is taking place - have you had this issue and did the bootloader resolve it?

I have had it, it's better but fast forwarding it still stops thougj

To address the recording / pixelation issue should we be flashing an updated GB bootloader or simply running with the updated GB Drivers which came with 056 / 057 (I forget!)
