Before I go any further, the reason I am still on 098, is because I don't like the changes that have been made to the autobouquets. I only use the FTA bouquet and I don't like the "Entertainment", "Documentary" etc... markers being in that list, so I'm sticking with this version... I tried 131 and removed it because of that, but if that's now an option, then I'm happy to upgrade.

Anyway, on to the actual problem. I am trying to configure WebIf over SSH. I am following a fairly comprehensive walk through (which was really hard to find), but have hit a snag. If I set up a tunnel using the default port, everything seems to go fine. The minute I try and forward a different port from my router, and connect via that port, I get a "Network Error: Connection Refused" response.

So just to clarify my process up to now.

  • Run Putty
  • Enter IP of box in host, making sure to set set SSH radio button, enter 80 in Port
  • Go to SSH > Tunnels, enter 80 in port, 127.0.0.1:80 in destination
  • Go to Sessions, type name, hit Save
  • Close Putty, run putty, double-click saved session, get login to box
  • Going to 127.0.0.1 on browser gives me the WebIf.

All fine so far, stage 2

  • Forward high port on router to port 22 on box
  • Run Putty
  • Enter Router IP in Host
  • Enter forwarded port in Port
  • Go to SSH > Tunnels, enter 80 in port, 127.0.0.1:80 in destination
  • Go to Sessions, type name, hit Save
  • Close Putty, run putty, double-click saved session, get "Network Error: Connection Refused" response

and that's where I'm stuck. I read on one page about editing the SSH config file, that was alleged to be in /etc/ssh/ but that doesn't seem to exist on my Duo2. Is there something I might have missed as a plugin or configuration option that might help to resolve this?

Your plan is to map port 22 (SSH) of the E2 box to a high port (e.g. 44444) connect it via SSH, and use port forwarding to get to openwebif?

This is pretty much my setup but I've got certs on the login along with denyhosts for security and it's a raspberry pi out on the internet not my E2 box, with forwarded ports through to the E2 box.

You can SSH to your E2 box internally?
Are you running any openvpn client on the E2 box that could confuse networking?
Check the ports you think are open with

Yep, that's exactly my plan.

Yep, if I go direct through port 22, I have no problem.
Nothing running on the box other than an NFS network mount to my NAS, not sure if that could cause any problems though.
I would have thought that if the port wasn't open, there would be no connection to refuse.

In the later part of the walk through, it goes through all the key creation setup for the extra security layer.

Have you tried port forwarding to port 22 on your router and see if that works?
Use the link above to check the ports are visible externally.

Other thing you'll need to do is port forward 8000 and 8001 if you want to stream.

Stage 2, bullet point 1 - Forward high port on router to port 22 on box

If I putty through my router with that forwarded port, it tries to connect, so I know the port-forwarding is working fine.

I actually use port 8002, as it is hardware transcoded on that port.
