I've noticed over the past few months (sorry cant be more specific) that my VU+ DUO2 Remote control is getting more and more unresponsive. I'd say at a guess right now, that the box registers no more than 55-60% of my key presses. It makes the whole user experience feel very sluggish and annoying. I sit literally about 7-8 feet from the box. There are no electronic devices around other than my phone which is often in another room. There are no line of sight obstacles between me on the sofa and the VU+ DUO.

I have tried the following
1. New batteries in the remote.
2. Disabled HDMI CEC

So has anyone else experience this ? Do you reckon is it a software or hardware issue? Can anyone suggest things to try ?

Many thanks for any help.

Is it the actual remote that is making box sluggish or could your duo2 be sluggish itself?

Whatever you think is the most sluggish thing you do with the box, can you do it from openwebif just to see if box seems to respond quicker?

The latest reported in Finland is a problem with Samsung plasma tv. Has problem with Duo2 RC.

I noticed sometimes having to press the remote multiple times, so switched to an older V2 remote and it works perfectly.

Yea I was thinking of trying a diffferent remote. Will the VU+Duo2 work with the remote from a VU+Duo (olde rmodel). I much preferred the older remote layout and key action. It was so much better in terms of usability. If the older remote (from a VUDuo) works with the new box (VUDuo2) I might try and source on on ebay. Anyone know if it'll work ?

Yeah the universal Vu+ remote works fine on a Duo2, I also prefer those over the Duo2 remote.

i have noticed the same thing... not happy :-(
it is my impression that the effect became worse towards the end of apollo/beginning of hades

one more thing... ;)
wasn't the remote key handling changed at one point in time: short/long press... action is not triggered before the key is released??? or something like that.
this in my mind made the remote perceived much slower.
not sure this has advantages for the regular user... i for example do not use any long presses at all...
could this be made selectable? action on key down or up?

Yes, I agree with you guys vu duo 2 remote was working perfect up until Apollo 166 upgrade now very unresponsive

I posted similar observations here: http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?46660-Remote-control-weirdness but am happy to concentrate on this thread as it will help to have everything in the same place. Needless to say a significant amount of swearing takes place every time I want to do something as simple as scrolling through the EPG & adding an auto timer.

Yes webif is good. And yes I've found an enigma2 iPad app which can search EPG & setup auto timers but it's not the point: the remote should work properly, and it appears I'm not the only one whose remote is behaving like its possessed with a trigger happy ghost.

What I've not tried is the remote control in the iPad app (e2remote pro) which I will do and report back.

This evening for example in the EPG I finalally got to next Wednesday (after a few false OK's and other random phantom button actions) to add something to record and just as I got there it acted as if I'd pressed exit.

A few f words later & decided to use the EPG search - of which pressing the correct button brought up IMDb instead (what's the point? I uninstalled it but it still shows as an option, of course now telling me it's not installed - yes I know, thanks, I deleted it but the ghost of IMDb still haunts my EPG)
Try again.. This time, EPG search correctly appears but then takes multiple attempts to enter all the characters amongst random ghostly uncommanded key presses, including a random exit.

It's not energy saving light bulbs (I use good old GU10 halogen, and mostly we watch good dramas & film with the lights off anyway)
It's not another remote "stuck"...
... Or having point the box in a southerly direction, not within two miles of a plasma TV, a kettle, a flight path, or my cat. Yes I'm being sarcastic but it's getting to the point where I've simply had enough.

Surely there has to be some way we can log remote reception & subsequent action to diagnose this behaviour ?

As an aside can anyone tell me if it's possible to skip ahead one day at a time in the (Cross) EPG?
So if it's Wednesday at 21:00, 4x key presses should be all that's needed to get to Sunday at 21:00.
At the moment I'm tediously pressing '6' on the remote - skips forward a few hours - made worse by the behaviour reported above.

Cheers

Ashley

IMDB is long yellow press, EPG search is short yellow press.
Have you enabled debug logs? this should track all button presses.

Also, to jump forward & back 25 hours in GraphicalEPG, use the CH + & CH - buttons.

Thanks  i will enable the debug logs and have a look through.
Cheers also for the 25 hours info.

Here we go. I've enabled debug logging (saving to hard disk) and just pressed the right arrow > a number of times and up and down a bit while in the EPG: looks like it really is behaving as if I've pressed another button (in this case, red):

Let me know if there is more I should post, FYI I tried the yellow long press (in the EPG) and it goes straight to enter text for search, a yellow short press produces a search list for whatever is currently highlighted on the EPG.

I suspect when I pressed yellow the other night (for a search) and it instead tried went to IMDB that the box thought I'd actually pressed red.

I've not had a problem on my Duo2 at all like this (though I use a harmony remote the majority of the time unless its on charge).
I'll dig out my Vu+ remote and give it a test.

Id buy one of those if i was sure it would fix the problem :) they look pretty gorgeous (for a remote)...

Interestingly, i just tried an app on my iphone to control over wifi the vu+ duo2 (amongst others)... it works flawlessly
The app on the iphone i was using is "E2 Remote Pro"
