Solo 2 been running fine for a few weeks apart from spinning vix twice a week which requires a reboot to clear unable to establish why

Last night 9.57pm spinning vix logo , box powercycled now I have lost all picons ?

All I want is the box once set up to work without bugs all the time !!

Ive looked in crash logs and logs and there is nothing there from last night

Anyone else had this problem ?

What can I do to identify why the box keeps throwing up a spinning vix ?

Help much appreciated

I have a Vu+ Solo2 with non of these issues. Could be a number of things. You mention picons, where are you storing those?

I also have a Solo2 running Hades 18 without any issues at all. Solid.

As Andy has mentioned, it could be anything including things like epg data corrupt, a plugin causing the issue, etc.

What plugins have you got installed that aren't installed by default by Hades?

I have the same issue, and have had since updating to Hades 18 on Vu+ Solo2 many weeks ago. I have very few plugings, reinstaled Hades 18 at the weekend, and am running the Confluence skin with ViXBMC Confluence (inc Yahoo weather). Reasonably regularly I get the "spining busy" indicator. It hasn't bothered me too much; was waitng for next build. Am also running mgcamd latest increment from feeds.

when you reflashed boxes did anyone use settings restore?

Your setup must be wrong for it to cause spinning vix issues etc.

Hi Guys thanks for the replies , I did a fresh flash to hades 18 no restore , epg in flash , plugins used - kodi for viewing you tube videos & iptv updater , dream explorer , iptv player

I'm wondering if its an epg issue with recordings clashing or something , frequently seems to be around the hour where recordings would kick in

Would clash of recordings cause my symptoms ? , seems very random

No issues in last 36 hrs

You should never store EPG data to flash, thats your first issue for a start!! Put it to HDD instead.

I have spent a little time looking at this and checking each plugin. I am beginning to believe the behaviour exhibited is to do with the Storage menu, HDD setup item and Sleep timer. I think this is a config item that is fairly new and the "spinning ViX" is the HDD waking up from sleep. Not sure what is being refreshed - picons, virtual memory (SWAP) though NOT configured on my system or other item the skin / system is looking for?

Anybody with ideas??

Actually thinking about this, I see it quite a lot on 2nd info screen, and my epg.dat file is on the hard disk. I have seen some recent posts that picons should/could be in Flash is this true? What about epg.dat - flash too? I had read when I started this hobby that to prolong flash life "best practice" was perhaps epg.dat at leat should be stored on HDD? I have plenty of flash capacity for both epg and picons; my tuner is VU+ Solo2.

Opinions on the issue and recommended locations for above - thanks

Picons:
Place on internal flash memory or USB stick.
HDD is fine too if you have automatic time shift.

EPG:
HDD or USB

Thanks @abu baniaz. I was only wondering as the "spinning ViX" seemed to come into the mix sometime after Hades was launched - I didn't used to see this behavior in earlier builds. After studying it for a while, it does appear to be the disk waking up, as when it is spinning i do not see the "wait" or delays.

Back in the day I had read it was "better" to avoid constant writes (nightly epg updates) to the flash, but is this an "old wives" tale? I can't think of anything else on the HDD (logs, images, backups, movies etc.) that could impact performance if indeed the behavior indicated is the disk waking from sleep.

In any event I will try your recommendation - I have a sneaking suspicion it will resolve the intermittent "spinning Vix"
